Filé Gumbo's newest CD Travelin' Mood is definitely a gumbo of styles that takes you around the bayou with all the uniqueness the South has to offer, from Texas to Florida, Cajun, Zydeco, R&B, Gospel, Rockabilly, Country Swing, Sentimental Ballads, obscure Elvis, "Swamp Pop;" this has it all. From the grapevine (doug Bright is a neighbor of mine) I've heard they are all very proud of this project.
Get in a travelin' mood because you are going on a musical journey that will have you feeling like you have been on a hitchhiking trip through the Gulf States via The Time Machine. Even the cover design with a motel sign suggests fasten your seat belts and expect surprises along every curve. This CD will make you dance fast, slow, waltx, 2-step and swing. This road trip is party time!
There are songs about looking for women: "Travelin' Mood," "Je Voudrais Marrier" and ""She Walks Right In," which echoes with the band talk-singing "She Walks Right Out" that will put chills right down your spine. Others are about getting rid of here: "You Let Your Main Man Down" and a gospel soul-shaking, 50's style number "You Can Have Her" that features Doug Bright's accordion solo sounding like a horn section from a Mississippi River Boat cruise. Trying to keep that gal: "That's Why I Cry," "Lipstick Traces" and a very sentimental waltx "My Sweet Octoroon" that Orville croons so sincerely. Even about getting along with here: "My Way Is The Highway" and "Love Me Back." I definitely dig "Diggin' It Deeper."

We began with a regular Tuesday evening gig at Seattle's New Orleans in Pioneeer Square that lasted 15 years. Our musical inspirations are Clifton Chenier, Fats Domino, Slim Harpo, Doug Kershaw, and all the great Louisiana stars. Unlike some bands that seem nominally similar, we play many familiar songs and don't sing in French all night or play one particular dance groove for hours on end. While this band started in March of '87, various members have musical associations going back even further than that. In fact, "the Sultan of Squeeze" - Doug Bright - debuted on KING 5 TV's King Klubhouse with Stan Boreson in November of 1958! We've been entertaining people of all ages at festivals, corporate events, community concerts, barbeques, family reunions, company picnics, weddings and such for more than 20 years now!
