Biography

Filigree was begun by keyboardist and songwriter Brian Spooner and vocalist Carina Ymana. After a small release, (Moments Under Libra), bassist Flora Mihailovsky and drummer Mark Stewart joined for live performances, but also brought with them years of studio knowledge. Soon after, the band as it was went into the studio to begin work on a bigger project, while playing live shows. The culmination of that work was released as "Right Here Far Away", the first full release. The songs are an attempt to bring lyrical "stories" to the ambient/pop arena, while maintaining an organic sense. With collaborative production work, they build each song in continuous layers, often sampling and filtering recorded parts to change them into something else entirely. One song from the latest release (The Bottom) was included on the Ocean Music Records label compilation, "The Mirror Date." The Release charted at #34 on CJAM’s weekly music charts and in 2 weeks rose to #1. It stayed in the top 5 for 5 weeks. This was followed by an appearance on the New WI’s “Morning Show”, where Filigree played 2 songs live to a morning television audience at the ungodly hour of 7 am. The release has recently been added to the rotation of the show Atmosphere 69 which is broadcast by commercial radio station MIX 96 in Montreal. This show is also broadcast in Italy, Russia, Germany and Switzerland. Look for the song “Love Is War Enough” to be released on a compilation out of Montreal, put together by King-A-Groove Records next year. The band was profiled and interviewed for Atmosphere 69, broadcast on November 20th 2005.
In the midst of all of this, there have been some changes within the band. In welcoming Christina Guerrard on vocals to the line-up, Filigree is fast approaching the finish of our second full release. Look for it early in the new year.
