"Final Club - Blanket Entertainment LP (2011)"

Happy New Year. So it's 2012 and I'm psyched to have this be my first post for the year. Final Club are a Denton, Texas based band featuring members of Teenage Cool Kids and other area bands. Final Club play a great style of music that combines elements of punk, garage rock, and indie rock into cohesive sound that results in an amazing debut LP. Final Club retains the pop sensibilities of Teenage Cool Kids but adds the indie rock/garage sounds of bands such as early era Meneguar to their sound. Final Club also throws the swagger of bands such as Les Savy Fav, Marked Men, or Hot Snakes into the mix, which results in ten songs of music that can be garage, melodic punk, and rock all at once. Final Club are hard to pigeonhole, which is definitely a good thing in my opinion. - The Elementary Revolt

"Mister Heavenly, Gruff Rhys, Fergus & Geronimo, Final Club, Tyvek, The Beets & more in This Week in Indie"

If your eyes didn't glaze over at the list of bands two paragraphs up, you may have noticed Final Club are playing with F&G twice this weekend. The two bands were Denton, TX neighbors before Fergus & Geronimo moved to Brooklyn late last summer. Final Club are here just for these shows. They are worth seeing in their own right: sneery, melodic indie rock with a tendency to lean on the tremolo bar which gives them a little Swervedriver vibe. Confident and loud.
You can check out "Tragic World" at the top of this post. And if you like that, you can download their Hot Gaze EP as well. Look out for their excellent debut album, Blank Entertainment, later this year. In addition to the two shows with Fergus & Geronimo, Final Club play a headlining gig at Death By Audio tomorrow night (1/13) with Bogan Dust, Clinical Trials and Laserdics. - Brooklyn Vegan

"Sounds of Summer"

On constant repeat, this debut LP from Denton, TX based Final Club entitled Blank Entertainment is all passion-filled pop infused rowdy punk-leaning anthems. Lyrically one of the most explosive albums I have heard in awhile – lyrics like “No, I really need to know, Is how we turned our lakes to fire!” from opening track “Tragic World” set the tone for the rest of the album. Checking in at just under 34 minutes, this 8 song ride is one that is suitable for any occasion. Got a BBQ backyard party? Got a long drive? Got a commute to endure? This album will get you there in the fastest way. Angular guitars reminiscent of Built to Spill and Up Records-era Modest Mouse appear early in the second track “Buy Into It” and by the end of this track you are shouting with the band “Does my world, feel the same? When I know, I cannot change! I cannot change!” The rhythm section moves the entire album through all the different song structures. Not matter the direction the band takes, Final Club manages the mangle a hook into each track.

The band hits its stride on tracks “Wizard Wells” and “Surfing With The Devil.” “Wizard Wells” reminds me of early, dare I say it, Nirvana and has the spirit of Pixies or maybe even the Strokes if they ever got angry about something. “Surfing With The Devil” is all the spirit of Dick Dale and The Pixies with a great rocking track that will having you chanting “Pardon me I KNOW what’s real” and the refrain entering the second verse “hot summer the days are the worst, you’ll know how it feels, making your claims on the rest of your life makes you feel real!” – I don’t know what is in the water in Denton,TX but whatever they’re drinking they need to keep up with it.

The band is a bit elusive on the web but catching them live at SXSW, they stood out as one of the best new bands and this is a hell of an album to enjoy.

"Last Night: Sundress and Final Club at DC9's Locals Only!"

Final Club haven't been around for long, but their sound is a total throwback, nodding at both old-school punk rock and grunge noise a la Sonic Youth. Their singer's Black Francis-meets-Johnny Rotten screech is perfectly suited to punk rock. This was their new bass player's first gig, and he managed admirably, taking cues from the capable drummer, who hit so hard that he splintered his sticks, sending wood chips flying during the set. The heavily distorted guitars veered into sloppy territory at times, but they held it together and managed to keep the energy level up. - The Dallas Observer
