"BVS Reviews"

When surfing the Web, I sometimes come across a band whose sample music sounds really good. One such band is Finneus. This Chicago area rock band had an album out called Translucent. I kind of wanted to get the album but it never happened. Then this year the band came out with a new album. This album was supposed to be even better than Translucent. I couldn't wait to find out. And I wasn't disappointed. The new album is top notch. But the album is much more than just great rock music. The styling of the songs mixes rock with soul, pop and Americana for a terrific sound. The title of the album is Superstar & The Ballerina.

Finneus has been around the Chicago rock scene for over 10 years. But they are beginning to get more than just regional exposure. With this new album, Finneus should be able to garner fans on a national and even international level.

As I said before, Superstar & The Ballerina is a top notch rock album. You only have to listen to one song off the album to realize just how good Finneus is.

There are samples from the album on the band's web site. The site is www.finneus.com . You can also check out their MySpace site at www.myspace.com/finneusband .

“JEEEZZAZ This is one of the best sounding tunes I have heard on this site! Well at least it’s something I would totally headbang to in the car. I see you guys playing in front of 10K people. Very powerful singing…the singing gave me a small aftertaste of Alice in Chains for some reason. This is an awesome song!”

“Great stuff. Nice groove, nice guitar, great performance, well written. What more can I say. I don't hear anything wrong with this track. Good job on this track.... keep up the good work.”

- Reviews of Disenchanted (from Superstar and the Ballerina LP)

“Great production level on this song. The guitar tones sound killer. They sound very twangy, yet warm and slightly overdriven. This song sounds like it could definitely go somewhere. It’s very memorable and catchy. Don’t have much to pick at with this track, it’s as close to perfect as I think you guys can get it, great job, keep up the hard work!”

“Good vocal performance, band is tight. Interesting to hear a light message like "Just want to sing a song and bring a smile to your face" done with this type of energy and angst. Song sounds tough and gritty, but the lyrics are "soft".”

"Illinois Entertainer"

(Review of Finneus' 2002 debut release, Translucent)
"A band with energy and catchy, groove-oriented beats, Finneus' debut album, Translucent, is the work of an experienced, talented group. From the beginning, 'Stretched,' an energetic funked-up piece to the slower 'Images,' Finneus doesn't disappoint. Great piano and guitars combine with Dave Bucher's soulful angry vocals (like on the hilarious 'What's Your Problem?') and the product is an eclectic compilation only waiting to be danced to. Definitely worth looking for, and probably a great band to see live, Finneus rules the undiscovered." - Jill Chickendantz

Bio

Finneus is a four piece band based in the Chicago area. Their catalog of melodic, groove oriented original material is described as being similar to Blind Melon, Foo Fighters, Train and Big Star. Their juke-box-like list of cover material reads like a whos-who of artists from every popular music genre heard on the radio today.

With a strong following of local and regional support, two independently released full-lengths, numerous road trips in the upper Midwest, college/specialty airplay, worldwide digital distribution and an award winning website, Finneus successfully continues to develop and embrace the DIY spirit as they entertain and expand their audience.

Members of Finneus have also performed and/or recorded with among others Screamin Jay Hawkins, LUCE, RnR Hall of Fame bassist Jerry Jemmott, Betty Dylan, bluesman Sam Cockrell, Kevon Smith (Buddy Miles Band) and Paris Delane (Sonia Dada).

Finneus' 2006 independent release 'Superstar and the Ballerina' is a deftly performed testament to their ability to write tight, catchy arrangements spanning the genres of hard rock, soul, alt-rock, emo and americana, all with a pop sensibility. The album's briskly paced ten song, 38 minute running time is indication that this is one band that knows its way around a well-crafted tune. From the pile driven guitar sound of Disenchanted and Four Walls, to pop feel-gooders like Song for You and Gentle Giant, to the combat folk of Ballad of a Stupid Person to the R&B influenced Inventing Heaven, Superstar has something for everyone.

Recorded at the world class Studio Chicago, the album was co-produced with Gene Wolf (Spirit, Ides of March, R.E.O. Speedwagon, Universal Records, IEP Record Group).

Humbly describing themselves as the least connected band in Chicago, the Illinois Entertainer, Chicagolands most widely read music publication put it another way: "Finneus rules the undiscovered!"
