"Live – review"

Bevan took us on startling odysseys that suggest Erykah Badu, Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush spine-tinglingly joined. - The Guardian

"Trending: singer-songwriter Fiona Bevan"

“…a stunning debut album… it’s time for this dreamy, offbeat beauty, and her halo of blonde curls, to take centre stage.”  - Mail On Sunday: You Magazine

"Listen: Fiona Bevan – “The Machine”"

“…mesmerisingly beautiful…”

Fiona Bevan is not necessarily a name that you’ll be instantly familiar with, but it’s a name that’s been floating round art galleries and exhibitions, collaborating with the Tate, films, and even Number 1 hit singles for a while now.

She’s someone that tends to stay in the background, co-writing One Direction’s “Little Things” with Ed Sheeran, and helping write for jazz vocalist Gwyneth Herbert, but now she’s making her own mark. “The Machine” is Bevan’s introduction; the debut single from her upcoming debut album.

It’s a mesmerisingly beautiful introduction at that. The simple looped acoustic guitars that start the track give no hints as to how the song is about to evolve and transform before your very ears. Like a machine kicking into action, the percussion clanks and chugs so much so that you can almost see the steam erupting from the pipes as the hydraulics get this lumbering beast moving.

As the track pulls forward, layers upon layers are thrown on top. Separately, the elements are pretty simple, but when combined together they create something so intriguing and fascinating to listen to. Bevan’s sweet but passionate vocals dance throughout.

A first taste from Bevan’s debut, Talk To Strangers (out 28 April via Navigator Records), “The Machine” is a fantastically hypnotic track from someone used to playing around behind the scenes. If this is what she’s been hiding away while writing for the likes of One Direction, it’s a surprise she didn’t come out from behind the curtain sooner. - Line Of Best Fit

"#PlayTime: Exclusive Preview Of Fiona Bevan's 'The Machine' Music Video"

“…clever hook, twinkly melodies and industrial rhythm”

Want something pretty listen to this Friday afternoon? Try Fiona Bevan's new single 'The Machine' We picked it as our track of the day because of its clever hook, twinkly melodies and industrial rhythm. We're officially unveiling the song's music video here RIGHT NOW.

Fiona helped write One Direction's mega-hit 'Little Things' with Ed Sheeran so it's not surprise she can pen a killer track. She says her single (out on March 10) is about 'everything'.

'It comes from being angry and frustrated about the state of the world and from my feelings of powerlessness to do anything about it,' says Fiona. 'Within the song, there’s a shift – that’s about breaking out and finding how you can have power in your own life, in everything you do.' - Grazia

"Track Of The Day 10/2 - Fiona Bevan"

“Fiona Bevan contrasts pastoral, acoustic textures with her golden, golden voice.” – CLASH MAGAZINE

One of the country's most successful young songwriters, Fiona Bevan isn't yet understood in her own right.

Yet the shy, retiring artist could be set to emerge blinking into the day. Bevan co-write (with Ed Sheeran, no less) One Direction's global smash hit single 'Little Things', handing the boy-band a demo recorded whilst the pair were still teenagers.

A curious twist of fate rather than a career-defining moment, Fiona Bevan's own work is rather more grittier, darker and more satisfying.

Long in the works, new single 'The Machine' allows this Hackney-based artist the space to assert her own identity. Rooted in folk, Fiona Bevan contrasts pastoral, acoustic textures with that voice and her golden, golden voice.

Somewhat unexpectedly, Ed Harcourt steps in on remix duties. Unexpected, in that the results push Bevan in an entirely new direction - yet one in keeping with the themes, the colours and tones of the original.

Adding in a ghostly half-step beat, Fem Fel is also on hand to supply guest vocals helping to maintain that atmosphere of menace. - Clash Magazine
