Fiona Landers

Fiona Landers

BandFolk

Indie acoustic folk with a dash of comedy.

Biography

Fiona Landers writes songs about unrequited love and growing up, songs that are funny and painful. She has an ethereal yet strong indie folk sound, and her musical influences Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, and Elliott Smith, shine through in her bittersweet chord progressions and poignant rhythms. Fiona is a refreshing addition to the New York music scene; she is a young woman with something to say to society and a versatile voice with which to sing it. All she needs is a song in her lungs and a guitar on her knee.

Lyrics

the guy

Written By: Fiona Landers

I only see you once a week
and when I do I say don't speak
because my knees'll get too weak
and my mouth will flood and leak
with words I want to say to you
feelings to relay to you
who'd play me and who'd play you
in our funny new york love? and
oh I wish I was your mia
like the time before soon-yia
and you'd say I'd love to see ya
but I know it's just a possible plot
in the screenplay that i haven't got
and if i were a little more exotic
and a little less neurotic
you might want to sweep me off my feet
but there my friend i've got you beat but..

i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
don't you know, can't you see?
that i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
i don't wanna be your woody.

can't somebody tell me why his juliet i can't be
why it's i who's always wooing
dueling and persuing our everlasting love
won't somebody show me
he'd be happy just to know me
in a gondola he'd row me
from the balcony he'd throw me
a rose or a vine
our hearts all intwined
in the love we could find
too bad it's only in my mind but..

i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
don't you know, can't you see?
that i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
i don't wanna be your romeo

i know it's silly, know it's strange
i really don't mean to complain
but i always thought i'd be the one who someone's singing to but..

i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
don't you know, baby can't you see?
that i don't wanna be the guy anymore no
i said i'd rather be, you know i'd rather be
i'd rather be..
the girl

it's raining in here

Written By: Fiona Landers

it's raining in here
puddles on my pillows
flowers on my sheets trying not to drown
the rest of you down
in the city out in the cold
but it's raining in here and i am feeling old
brittle bones smile lost
silent phone
thoughts about the cost of living cheap
not so unique i know
but it's raining in here
there's clouds up above
yeah it's raining in here
and it's draining
draining my love

umbrellas and boots
and winter suits
won't save you from the cold alone clouds
that make you weak in the knees
they make you fall down
when there's nobody there to get you
cuz it's so easy to forget you if they try

but it's raining in here
it's too damn draining lifting up my head
from my soggy bed
cold alone
silent phone
when i was thinking i just might get the right damn call
it could take me from winter
winter to fall
but it's raining in here
it's thundering too
and i was hoping for some lightening
and i was hoping
hoping for you
but it's raining in here
i got a trashbag cape to keep me warm
yeah it's raining in here
and it looks like it's gonna be a storm

too hard

Written By: Fiona Landers

it's just a feeling it'll pass
a way of dealing doesn't last
i wanna try someday
i said i'll try
but someday i'm gonna breathe out real hard and die

a scary thought for some, not me
i am not one of those scared people
not today
today i am ready for the sky
and someday i'm gonna breathe out
real soft-like
and maybe my baby'll cry

but somebody's gotta tell me
and some god's gotta show me
before i throw me
anywhere too hard

i get through my days
some of them tough
lead an empty life
filled with stuff
and i'm so worried that i'm not enough
i gotta remember
i'm gonna surrender
to wherever

got no lover to hold tight
just my cover's gonna keep me warm tonight
but who cares if i'm right ever cuz clever won't keep you out of the ground

chorus

i gotta find out who to trust
figure out some love
some sweet touch
before my baby turns to dust
i wanna surrender
to someone forever

i don't want my room
turning into my tomb
i know my wounds
but then i feel my womb
like a woman does

but somebody's gotta tell me
and some god's gotta show me
and some man's gotta love and know me
before i surrender
to wherever we go
