Anaesthesia

Written By: Fiona Price

1. Pre-Operative

Lying here on the table
Frost creeping slowly up my arm,
Soon I will be able
To escape into its balm,
Bright silver needle
The surgeon is wielding,
Submit to its greed,
I can feel myself yielding...

Transparent the fluid
That will take away my pain,
Deadening me to it,
And then waking me again,
But for a while, sleeping
I will forget, when I
Feel the frost creep up my
Neck to my head...

2. In Theatre

I lie here helpless
As the surgeon slices knives into me,
Dead to the knowledge of the
Pipes and tubes he’s thrusting through me,
Thinking that his scalpel can cut out
The source of my pain...
I want to scream into his face
“You won’t find the malignant place
That wreaked the damage in my life
No matter where you dig your knife,
It’s buried too deep in my brain,
But when I wake it will rise up again...”

3. Post-Operative

Lying here on the table,
Stitches are soaking in my side,
Soon I will be able
To go back to home and hide,
Now I have woken
The pain is returning,
The magic has broken,
The memories are burning,
I’m helpless as when I was
Down on the table,
But able to feel every blade.

The Other Side

Written By: Fiona Price

1. There’s a window where I watch you every night,
A pane of glass through which I’m keeping you in sight.
Hours pass as I gaze into the glass,
You never stir, but through the window I remember how you were;

Trapped behind the carven windowframe I made,
On which the dust of many decades has been laid;
Years bleach, but if only I could reach
In through the pane into the window I could join you there again.

CHORUS
And your fading face
Is so pleasant in this place,
I fear the shadows cast
By this present, I can’t last
I need to open up a window to the past.

2. There’s a window where I used to watch them play,
I used to shout commands and hope they would obey.
Days went by when I had to keep an eye
Out for the screams that pierced the fabric of their youthful plans and schemes;

Now the garden through the windowpane is bare,
I keep watching, but I never see them there.
Nights fall, and I wait here through them all,
But the door that let them through won’t seem to open any more.

CHORUS
And your fading face
Is so pleasant in this place,
I fear the shadows cast
By this present, I can’t last
I need to open up a window to the past.

BRIDGE
Poor old thing, we’ll have to go and visit her this year,
Her mind has started straying from the path a bit I fear,
Her hair has gone so grey
Since he’s been gone away,
But who’s to blame if she’s still talking to his picture in the frame?

3. My mind’s a window, but they never look inside
To see the little girl, the mother and the bride.
Life crawls, but your face there on the walls
Gives a glow that helps me see the people I was long ago,

Only you are still beside me here somehow,
The only window letting light in to me now.
Time will teach, and I’ll some day learn to reach
From where I hide to where you’re waiting for me
On the other side.

Break You Inside

Written By: Fiona Price

Verse 1

Don’t try to hide,
I can see through your pride
Every time,
Let yourself cry,
And I’ll be standing by
Every time.

And you know it’s all right
If you ring me at night
I don’t mind,
If you don’t want to talk,
We can go for a walk
I don’t mind;

Chorus

Don’t let the world get you down,
Don’t let the world get you down,
It will take you and shake you
But don’t let it break you inside.

Verse 2

Call every day
To make sure you’re OK
And be kind;
Anyone who
Can’t appreciate you
Must be blind;

And I know that it’s bad
To feel just a bit glad
You’re in pain,
’Cause when I console you,
It means I can hold you
And see you again and again…

Chorus

Bridge

Hearing you tell me about all your sorrows is bliss;
Tell you I care and hope one day that I dare
To kiss you, but I just resist you,
I’m too scared to try;

Chorus

Silence from the sky

Written By: Fiona Price

Intro

(Talk to me, talk to me
Don't turn me away
Talk to me, talk to me...)(*2)

Verse 1

When I tried to pray
No-one ever answered,
I listened all day
To the silence from the sky,

Was He there? Was He real?
Did He think I didn't matter?
Did He want me to feel
I wasn't worthy of His love?

CHORUS
Where are you now?
Oh my love,
Am I worshipping a fantasy?
Well, I'll make you feel,
I'll make you real
And not just real to me,
Where are you now?
Oh my love,
Close my eyes and cling to faith,
If you're not real, where does all I feel go?

Verse 2

When God didn't hear,
I put you in His place,
Directed my fear
And my love towards your face,

And I thought you were strong,
'Cause you thought I didn't matter,
And told me all along
I wasn't worthy of your love,

CHORUS

Bridge

Well, I know you're just a man,
But there's no-one in the sky
To guide me and protect me
And reject me when I cry,
Though you sent me to Hell,
I still need to believe,
I knelt at your feet,
Please make me complete,
Please make me complete, oh-h

Talk to me, talk to me (etc.)

Verse 3

Took too long to see
The God I longed to find
And prayed you could be
Was an image in my mind,

Was it you? Was it me?
Well, I guess it doesn't matter,
I created a world
Where you were worthy of my love,

CHORUS * 2

Stars beneath your feet

Written By: Fiona Price

I want to build you a new dance academy,
Warm polished floorboards and cool mirrored walls,
Sprinkled the floorboards with sequins and silverdust,
Light up the ceiling with bright glitterballs;

Turn on the music
And when you start dancing
You'll see all the universe dancing with you
And there'll be stars beneath your feet
Stars beneath your feet.

I cannot build you a new dance academy,
So I have found you a beach of black sand,
Picked tiny flowers to build you a galaxy
Here on the dance floor I smoothed out by hand;

When the moon rises, I'll play my guitar,
Each tiny flower is shaped like a star,
So there'll be stars beneath your feet
Stars beneath your feet.

I cannot buy you a new dance academy,
So I picked flowers to build you a galaxy,
I can't afford what I wanted to buy,
Come to the water, I'll give you the sky;
Come to the water, I'll give you the sky.
