Fiona Stewart Solo / Ensemble

 Hobart, Tasmania, AUS
BandPopSinger/Songwriter

A powerful performer, a woman of substance - accessible to all ages, touches the soul with her rich voice, poetry and earthy acoustic style, rich in r+b, jazz and world influences, making her show stand up anywhere. Whether solo or with her great trio, Fiona weaves us together with song and heart.

Biography

Fiona was singing before she could speak. Song is as vital to her as food, love and air to this artist. With a jazz singing mother introduced at a tender age to the great voices of Carmen MCrae, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone. As a teenager, she found herself drawn to female artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roberta Flack.

A professional actress and acclaimed performer, Fiona has always has been communicating intimately with audiences - whether as an actor in contemporary Australian theatre at the Sydney Opera House or playing original acoustic jazz for music lovers at festivals in French castles. She lived and worked for 10 years in France; a modern-day troubadour!

30 years of breathing through r+b, soul and jazz, she now performs a repertoire that is a mix of her own original material and tunes that she loves from all genres from all over the world.

In solo in an unplugged setting or with her hip young acoustic trio versed in all the above styles, she delivers a dynamic, emotionally enriching concert.

To see and hear The Fiona Stewart alone or with her Ensemble is always an intensely musical experience.

fly

FLY

Searching for a peace to become whole x 3
I’m still searching
Fly
To the other side of the world
Maybe it’s already in my sight
Must I fly to the other side of the world not knowing wherefore or why

let go

Written By: fiona margaret stewart

LET GO
I'm gonna let go, time to surrender, trust that I won't fall too hard at all
I'm gonna open up into a bigger world, help me now release the final hold
I'm lookin' back, seeing where I came from
Knowing where I am is all part of the plan
I bless it all, I honor every moment
The joy, the pain, the feeling that I have
My life has been just like a spinning wheel, going round and round and round
Here I am now, I'm staying in the same place; I feel the earth, my feet are on the ground
What is on the other side? If I close my eyes, then I can see;
It's a big, big world inside of here, only one place left for me to be...
Let go, let go, let go, let it go

returning to me

RETURNING TO ME

Feel
Feeling free
Wanting to be
Needing to be free
I am not alone in my quest
All of us could use a little rest from fighting our way to be free
Someone told me long ago the way they thought my time might be
But as years and days and lives go by I know it’s not that right for me
All or nothing at all that’s what some think
But freedom’s not that way
It’s into your heart you must sink

dreaming

DREAMING

Wanting to learn about trust and patience
Sounds like a comedy duo
I’ve never known much about trust and patience
Maybe it’s time to believe that I’ worth my dreaming
I dream of a life full of joy and I dream about you
Could it be that it’s all possible
I can dream that it’s true
It’s here when I see my baby smile and it’s here in my heart
It’s there when we take the time to care for each other
It’s not so hard

we met

Written By: fiona margaret stewart

WE MET

We met in a crowded moment
We met it was so sweet
We met you took me by surprise
We met my heart filled inside
Yours eyes were warm your body had grace
My heart moved when you asked was I happy
You reached out to me and asked me to stay
It was so easy to fall into your arms
And I fell when
We met

brother

Written By: fiona margaret stewart

BROTHER

We've done no preparation, for this thing now that's happening
We all want to close our eyes, pretend that's it's an aberration
But there are people dying, don't be afraid to say that word
If we could look at the truth, we could send them happily flying

He's my brother, you're his lover, he's my father, you're his mother

Finishing our lives is something that we all have to face
I don't see much encouragement for this point of view
Our friends who have A.I.D.S are whispering in our ear
"There's not much time, you gotta live it now, we're nearly at the end of our race"

He's my brother. you're his lover, he's my father, you're his mother

So if you gotta friend who's on the way out, look at it
The fear is in yourself, acknowledge it
We've all got to go, it's just a matter of time and date
So open up your heart and look at the cards of fate

He's my brother, you're his lover, he's my father, you're his mother

take a breath

Written By: fiona margaret stewart

TAKE A BREATH

Where are we going in such a hurry?
Around the block a few more times
Unable to stop for a moment's connection
Terrified of the sublime
We're running so fast, intelligence in our eyes
But it's very weary making
Being strong and funny for the rest of the world
When we're alone, sometimes feels like we've been faking

Slow down my old friend
You won't get there any faster, 'cause you're trying
It's not a race, forget about the pace
Take a breath, it's ok to be crying

It's only a matter of time before the shell breaks
And when it does, try to allow it
'Cause inside the pain and confusion we all feel
Is the gold waiting for us to avow it
