Bio

The humble beginnings of Fire Like You can be tracked back to 2000, when three high school pupils decided to start up a rock band. Originally consisting of Max Lehr on drums, and Joshua Moys on bass and Etienne Hachler on guitar and vocals, the trio jammed together throughout their high school careers whilst searching for additions to their existing line up cycling through various band names. Early 2006 marked the arrival of guitarist Jonathan Snyman who completed the instrumental dimension of the band. The remainder of 2006 saw the band searching for a vocalist and refining their infusion of melody and rhythm. The phonetic articulation of the band’s sound came in the form of vocalist Francois Du Preez in late 2006.

March 2007 saw Fire Like You take the stage for the first time at the bohemian in JHB. The band played numerous venues in and around the Johannesburg area, including venues such as The Roxys, The Blues Room, The Nile Crocodile, and Sundowners. After only having 10 shows between March and April of 2007, Fire Like You parted ways with Du Preez, and also a departure from their previous musical direction. September 2007 witnessed the arrival of new vocalist Zeehad Moses ( Rife, The Night Light Six), who helped shape the new musical landscape of the band, which can best be described as a blend of technical guitar prowess and melody, harmonic vocals and intricate rhythms.

While only having performed for a brief stint during 2007, and despite a year long hiatus, Fire Like You were still keenly anticipated and their debut show, with new vocalist Moses, in May of 2008, was indeed a spectacle to behold! At only their 2nd show a week later, Fire Like You received a favorable press write up in the citizen newspaper for their commendable performance at a battle of the bands competition. The band continues to grow from strength to strength, winning over new fans with each performance from peers and punters alike. July 19th saw Fire Like You picked from over 120 band entries country wide to perform in the Supporting act search for Underoath, where the crowd response was overwhelming. Having performed on main stage at the Lido Fest, with bands such as 16 Stitch, My Epic, Unlisted, Bloodline Ltd and other well established acts, at only their third performance of 2008, Fire Like You have demonstrated that they are a band worth taking note of and are definitely one to watch in the near future.
