"Review: Firetone EP"

There are two things that really mystify me about Firetone. One is how they get their hair styles so perfect every time and the other is how such a young band can be so unbelievably incredible!

Firetone are one of those bands who come around every few years. When everyone else is pulling out the same obvious hooks with their only stunt at originality is wearing a funny t-shirt on stage, Firetone actually stretch the boundaries of the music they create. The only thing I can compare their EP to is something like Muse’s Origin of Symmetry or Incubus’s Make Yourself. Sheer melodic class is splattered all across this 3 track CD and you can tell that although it’s extremely natural, it’s also been put together with every intricate detail being perfectly placed. I sit and try to pick out the weak track on the EP but it’s a challenge I’m unable to complete. The tracks Angel inside, Free Again and Well are all brilliant and deserve to be heard.

Usually, I give unsigned bands a bit of slack by not choosing the right producer for the job. The bands front man and guitarist, Andé D’Mello produced this himself and to be honest, he’s done a better job then most full-time producers. Although it isn’t perfect, it sure sounds freakin’ awesome!

OK, so surely this band isn’t that good? Well let’s have a look at the great band checklist…
Great songs? Check
Well produced EP? Check
Funky Hair? Triple Check
Great Live? Definitely

Kels Last Words:
My prediction for Firetone’s future. If they continue to tour and produce great songs, they will no doubt go on to ultimate musical success…I smell future Reading fest headliners!

Rating: 5/5
Don’t believe me? Check them out for yourself. I must warn you, they’ve made a little promotional video on the media section of their website…it’s immensely cheesy…quite funny…still…cheese. -

Firetone EP (2008)

Firetone are a band with a very serious attitude and many talents (All artwork, recordings, web design, photography and of course songwriting is done by the band). Formed by brothers Andé and Chris, Firetone have built up a reputation as an incredible live act with a lot of energy.
