"First Tiger Christmas"

First Tiger carried on regardless. Two guys, two guitars and plenty of talent would normally do the trick but their subtle musical pleasures fell on deaf ears. Full credit to them nonetheless as they ploughed on and they even managed to do a somewhat surreal bit of incredibly laconic Christmas crooning to end their set. So right and so wrong all at the same time. I doubt the audience got the joke but I did. Pure class! - Bluesbunny

"First Tiger acoustic"

Panic. Bar not open. Must be early. What to do? Stand about looking desperate until the Free Candy Sessions featuring First Tiger, Kat Healy, Mister Mark Rafferty and Some Boy kicks off. Hope it is soon.

Bar open, music starts so let us consider First Tiger. Over the course of the set, they actually lapse into the French language. Hey, one Scotland, one culture so let's get with the whole arthouse program here. Well it would be arthouse if there was not some serious musical talent on show. This duo started off awkwardly but by only their second song, "Not Worth The Rent", they have hit their stride. Their harmonies are offbeat yet effective and the vocals generally have a laidback, super cool feel to them. Add some bogging French cigarettes and they could become the new darlings of the west end of Glasgow. No, they are better than that. Much better. - Bluesbunny

"First Tiger @ The Liquid Ship"

Last on were First Tiger. I'll get the sexism out of the way first. First Tiger had a female drummer. As women are notoriously late for everything, finding one behind a drum kit where timing is rather important was a bit of a surprise. That said, she proved to be rather good indeed with a remarkably busy style. Likewise, the rest of the band were polished in their approach to their songs lending a feeling of understated elegance to the proceedings. Those songs are curious things too possessing all sorts of contradictory influences with the Pastels, Wham and even the dreaded Morrissey - OK, an alternative reality where they have a happy Morrissey - coming to mind.

As the winter creeps in to chill your bones once more, you need a reason to leave your centrally heated prison cell. I think I've given you not just one but four. - Bluesbunny

"First Tiger @ King Tut's"

A varied selection of music was on offer last night at King Tut’s, headed up by the indie pop of London band Exlovers, who were supported by three local acts.

First Tiger played an intriguing set, with their unusual line up incorporating two guitars, double bass, drums and a three trumpet brass section. They have a fast paced pop sound that is refreshingly different, although the mass of instruments drowned out the vocal on occasions. - Glasswerk

Bio

First Tiger: after a few years of living in various places around the world Primo and Shorts, one summer in a beach house in the south of France, arranged their songs for a two man acoustic act and took them back home to Glasgow.
At their first open mic night they were spotted by a local gig promoter and offered their first show.

After playing venues of all sizes around the city they started to recruit a rhythmn section playing the full band versions of the songs as they were originally intended.
As well as regular live performances they've continued to write new songs and develop and expand their sound.

Most recently they've begun to play with a trumpet section to recreate live the full complexity of the songs as they've been recorded. They've also begun to work with a string section on arrangements of songs by Jacques Brel - a performer close to their hearts.

Taking their cue from musicians like Duke Ellington, the Tigers like to dress for the occasion and would happily take a train around the world and play in a different town every night of the year.
