"FisherKing EP Review"

Sydney four-piece create a pastiche of many genres that, in summary, rules

For a band who have been together since March 2008, Fisher King display a chemistry and maturity generally found in the songs of seasoned veterans. Vocalist/guitarist Sam Stephenson has written an EP that may well stand the test of time, as although it deviates from a central style or tone, each track succeeds in its experimentation. Opener, Who You Praying To?, juxtaposes a reggae beat with staccato guitar and Stephenson’s weary-cum-impassioned vocal delivery; while Smellin Roses is a song that exhibits all the emotions and imagery of a late afternoon sunset. Fisher King have delivered an EP of restrained intensity which covers many genres and does them all justice.

"Triple J Unearthed"

“These guys are a solid Sydney roots band - they play smooth, rootsy indie that paints a picture of beaches, surf, and zero worries. I expect to see them trailing the never-ending roots festival circuit in the coming year.”

JANUARY 14 2009 - Krissi Weiss, Rave Magazine

"Sounds of Summer"

"Luke Robertson's shuffle drum pattern [on Smellin Roses] evokes images of undulating oceans, while Paul Hanna's guitar is the sound of palm trees jently swaying on the edge of the sand line. The three-part harmonies round out this chilled-out number that's all about making time to enjoy life. It's a simple axiom, but a powerful one."

FEBRUARY 25 2009 - Dom Alessio, Home and Hosed

"halo-17 Review"

"The band drift through folk, soul, roots, blues, groove, and rock, all with an unexpected ease." JANUARY 20 2009 - Alex Ghiculescu, halo-17

"Home and Hosed"

"I caught these guys at the Fuse Festival Explode showcase (thanks triplejunearthed!)... Awesome, awesome stuff! I can't wait to see more of these guys live (20 minutes is clearly not enough!) Nice!”
MARCH 7 2009 - Sarah Howells, Home and Hosed
