"Fitzpatrick - Squares of Reality"

4.5/5.0
The Vitals:

Label: Pastdeux Music
Genre: Progressive House
Number of Tracks: 11

Dunamis' Take:
Fitzpatrick brings to you Squares of Reality, his second full album release and PastDeux's first full release to date. There are only few times that I can fully listen through a dance album, and this is certainly one of them. Through the progressive beats and vast soundscapes, this release truly takes the listener on a journey. To quote Fitzpatrick, "This album is not just a collection of music but a look into the very essence of a musician and what it is to be human."

I can certainly say his sound has evolved since his last release, Fits Perfect. Squares of Reality feels like you're listening to one cohesive track of vast tech and progressive elements, textures, and soundscapes. At the end, you've listened to 11 great tracks that you'll want to listen to again or throw down in your next DJ mix.

With that said, I would like to mention some of the individual tracks. First up, "Looking Up" was featured in the second episode of Tastyfresh's Freshbeats. With its solid grooves and catchy, melodic soundscape, this track is one of my favorites. Some of my other favorites share similar characteristics, like "New Solution," "Me vs Myself," and the album title track "Squares of Reality." "New Solution" is a good starter track after the album's intro, having an intriguing bassline and textures that keep the track driving forward. With its metallic sounds and cool piano stabs, "Me vs Myself" fits well further into the mix and keeps the pace going. Few more small comments: "Neurotic" is another great solid track, and "Dramatic Effect" is actually very relaxing for those low spots in a mix.

Both DJ and avid electronic music listeners will enjoy this album. It doesn't matter if you're chilling and in need of something to listen to or want to drop it in your next mix; this album has something for both. Also, listeners of Sasha, Shiloh, David West, Benz & MD, Nick Warren, and Hybrid will be fans of this album as well.

Bio

In 2009, DJ/Producer/Remixer Fitzpatrick Mauldin releases his newest album, “Squares of Reality.” This look into the very essence of a musician not only reveals who is Fitzpatrick Mauldin, but also where he is from. His “Squares of Reality” have lead him from programming MIDI beats as a teenager, to performing with some of Electronic Music’s biggest names in premiere settings. Starting out with simple keyboards and MIDI cables, Fitzpatrick Mauldin began his journey into the world of Electronic Music over 10 years ago. After working on several ndustrial projects, the artist then known as “M-Edge” became “DJ Edge” after being influenced by artists like Christopher Lawrence, Jeremy Dawson (Slyder, Shiny Toy Guns) and Sasha. His early residency at Club Trinity in the Birmingham, Alabama area only fanned the flames and his success.

After totally diving into the world of the producer, DJ Edge gradually faded into a memory, as Fitzpatrick decided to go by his real name in order to let his listeners connect with him on a level they had not previously done. Combining the sounds of House, Progressive, Techno, Electro and Psychedellic, Fitzpatrick began to develop his signature sound. Taking the best of each genre, Fitzpatrick’s sound has become an international export, featured on radio shows from Australia to Miami.

As you can see, Fitzpatrick’s Squares of Reality have taken him to many places. From his beginnings as a bedroom producer, to playing in front of packed crowds, Fitzpatrick continues to push the boundaries of Electronic Music. His craft is constantly evolving as his listeners evolve, challenging them to discover their own Squares of Reality.
