"five miles more" plays straight-ahead jazz. Our mission is to spread the gospel of love through our music. Our goal is to bring you our interpretation of jazz classics and standards, as well as original material written by members of the group. Our influences and inspirations come from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Smith, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Billie Holiday, McCoy Tyner, Steely Dan.
"five miles more" began as a small group of friends who got together weekly to play jazz prayer. We began playing benefit shows for church functions. As time went on, we added members to the group until we reached our current configuration of five musicians and a vocalist.
The homeless are our fans. We play for them on selected Friday nights outside at Liberty Plaza in Ann Arbor during the spring through the fall. Stop by and take it all in. It's unforgettable.
"five miles more" is available for benefits or for hire. We have a wide range of selections to choose from. We can tailor the band in terms of both size and song selection to best fit your needs.
