Paper Maché

Written By: Five Smooth Stones

Why do we? Why do we?
We set out all our traps?
We keep so many skeletons in our closets
Keep everything under wraps
We hold tight to our secrets
Why can’t we?
Why can’t we?
Just let it go?
No we just hide away
So no one will know

Just like we build up our castles
Out of of paper maché
We paint them up pretty
But at the end of the day
Our defenses come down
To just one masquerade
And one little spark could take them all away
Paper maché

Why do we?
Why do we?
Tear each other down?
We'll stab our brothers in the back
As soon as they turn around
Waiting for the sneak attack

Why can’t we?
Why can’t we?
Just let it go?
No we’ll feed on roasted comrades
Before our mouths get in control

Just like we build up our castles
Out of of paper maché
We paint them up pretty
But at the end of the day
Our defenses come down
To just one masquerade
And one little spark could take them all away
Paper maché

These walls we've built
Are our own painted cages
This story we wrote
Has tears on its pages
We're dying alone
When we won't let down our defenses
What I need to know
Is can just put down the weapons?
If we don't come together
If our pride won't surrender
What makes us think tomorrow
Won't be just yesterday?

Rockets

Written By: Five Smooth Stones

All this talking
About when days were new
Idealistic
Actions seemed so true
We felt stronger
Dreams had just begun
Burdens lighter
Before gravity won

So long ago
We lost our way
At the beginning
We should have stayed

Watching eyes towards
The heavens staring down
Waiting to see
Rockets cross the night
Our world changing
Do we even try?
Our fixation
The world passing by

So busy talking
Arguing so strong
We forgot meaning
Somewhere became wrong

When did we
Lose our sight
Of what our actions mean
When did we
Fall out of touch
With what it is to love

Are we somewhere in the atmosphere
Or have we missed the ride
When we lose sight of meaning
We're hallowed out inside
Like shooting stars we're burning up
Left in the rockets dust
When we argue as reason
We're broken and we're lost

Old age approaching
Scars come with it too
Love not in motion
Will turn black and blue
Hardness growing
Deep within our souls
Our hearts changing
Callused to our sin

Bitterness consumes
Makes us to stay
Stagnant we’re wasting
Set in our ways

When did we
Lose our sight
Of what our actions mean
When did we
Fall out of touch
With what it is to love
I’m sick of it
Of all of this
No more bitterness
Just love

Beauty & Pain

Written By: Five Smooth Stones

There was poison in the apple
There is more within my heart
My eyes are scarred and bloodshot
My mind is cut so deep
Is there change within my fingers?
Is there life within my grasp?
Am I a soul in movement?
Or will I stay the same?

I've become
Something I never thought I would
All this tension
I am beauty mixed with pain

She was standing in the doorway
Her tears ran mixed with rain
A little bit of shame in every drop
But there's beauty in the same
There was a moment when she felt it
There was a moment when she changed
A heart that circles broken
It can be fixed again

I've become
Something I never thought I would
All this tension
I am beauty mixed with pain

I wanna go where my head stops spinning
I wanna go where my head it stops
I wanna go where my heart means something
I wanna go where I escape
I wanna run away I want to get away
From all the pain inside me
I wanna run away I've got to get away
From all these scars that mock me

I've become
Something I never thought I would
All this tension
I am beauty mixed with pain

I've become
Something I never thought I would
All this tension
That keeps my head so tightly wrapped
I am beauty mixed with pain
