Fixer delivers a unique brand of gritty, high-energy melodic hard rock. The band has spent 2002 and early 2003 touring the East Coast while cutting two EPs, in the process winning three different battles of the bands, garnering radio play in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Maryland, Germany, and Japan, and earning kudos from myriad underground publications for both the live show and the recordings.
Singer Evan R Saffer has forged a reputation for mesmerizing crowds with his electrifying voice and charismatic presence. Into each tightly arranged song, Fixer packs soaring vocals, Wilson’s searing guitar riffs and solos, J Brown’s virtuoso bass playing, and the Reverend Diamond Tim Newton’s atomic drumming, all wrapped around loads of catchy hooks. Bill Aucoin, former manager of KISS and Billy Idol, sums it up best: "The return of rock and roll. Hot riffs, great hooks, a sexy look, and an out-of-this-world frontman make Fixer's shows a must-see."
With victories and praise under its collective belt, Fixer rockets through 2003, touring up and down the East Coast while converting DJs and fans there and beyond. Buoyed by promotional teams in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and California, and in far off lands such as the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy and Indonesia, Fixer continues to spread their gospel of melodic hard rock.
Accomplishments
In July 2002 Fixer won a two-round competition over 50 other bands at the Downtime in NYC. Jim Testa of Jersey Beat wrote: "Fixer was my big discovery of the night...The songs just explode on stage, big and ballsy and tuneful, with meaty hooks and melodies." He has since featured Fixer in several issues, including an extensive interview last August.
In September, Fixer performed at CBGB in New York City as part of the Musicians and Emerging Artists of New York festival, where the judges proclaimed that Fixer displayed "outstanding musicianship, song writing, and the most potential to have a successful career in the music industry." As one of four winners over hundreds of other New York bands, Fixer was sent to Cleveland as part of "New York Rocks the Hall" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Right before Christmas, Fixer beat out 96 other bands over three rounds at the Sam Ash Future Rock Stars competition in Long Island. Not unlike the MEANY festival, the band was judged mainly on its viability as "Future Rock Stars," and walked away with over $12,000 of equipment.
Both the Hell EP, recorded in the spring, and the Bend EP, cut in September, received enthusiastic reviews in 2002. The best (and most profane) came from Joe Wawyrnizak at Jersey Beat, who described the Hell EP as "Bullshit-free straight-up confrontational hard rock bossness," while The Boston Globe called it "Gritty retro rock." The Bend EP, recorded with Jason Corsaro (who has worked with Queen, Soundgarden, Buckcherry, Madonna, and Duran Duran, among others), was hailed by the delightfully seedy NY Waste magazine as "dirty metal music for a three day bender," while Hellride Music praised the return of a "good ol' fashioned hard rock band."
