Was 2006 auf dem Debüt „Stark“ im Keim angelegt war, ist inzwischen
in schönster Pracht erblüht. Fjarill haben zum ureigenen, angenehm warmen Sound gefunden, den sie mit ethnischen Elementen vom afrikanischen Kontinent und aus Skandinavien ein ums andere Mal reizvoll anreichern. (...) Mit ihrer Hilfe kann der Hörer das Urvertrauen in die Natur und die Geborgenheit im Universum („Fjarills folkvisa“), die Freude an jedem Ding auf der Erde („Seeperdjie“) und das kindhaft-naive Staunen über die Schönheiten um uns herum („Lössnön“) wieder erlernen. Nicht zuletzt deswegen ist Fjarills Longplay „Pilgrim“ eines jener entzückenden Kleinode, ohne die die (Musik-)Welt ärmer wäre.

Wahr ist vielmehr, dass mit der Schwedin Löwenmark und ihrer südafrikanischen Kollegin sich zwei grandiose Talente ausgerechnet in Hamburg getroffen und zum musikalischen Duo vereint haben, das seinesgleichen in der Pop-Szene gar nicht lange suchen muss, weil es sowieso nicht fündig werden kann. (...) Dann singt sie in ihrer schwedischen Muttersprache und mit leicht ätherischer Stimme Lieder, die man Pop nennen könnte, aber nicht möchte. Sie sind viel zu fragil und allzu fein elaboriert dafür. Jazz ist es aber eben auch nicht, für Folk fehlt jede Bodenständigkeit, gelegentliche Blues-Einsprengsel machen aus ihnen längst noch keinen Blues.
Die zweieinhalb Stunden in der Fabrik waren, knapp gesagt, ein wirkliches Fest. Ein Fest, ein Fest, ein Fest.

The Folk/Pop Duo Fjarill was founded in 2005 by Aino Löwenmark (vocals/piano) and Hanmari Spiegel (violin). The global RUTH award winners of 2011 will release their 6th album in August 2013. This new album called "Tiden" was recorded with guest musicians from the famous jazz-trio Tingvall Trio Jürgen Spiegel (drums/percussion) and Omar Rodriguez Calvo (double bass)members of the famous jazz-trio Tingvall Trio. While Aino hails from Sweden and Hanmari from South Africa, both now live in Hamburg. And everybody involved in the project have had more than their just rewards. From its onset, Fjarill’s first album "Stark", released in December 2006, reached more fans and listeners than could have ever been hoped for. Queen Sylvia of Sweden even insisted seeing them perform when she visited Hamburg in October 2006. Through consistent positive press reviews more and more people’s attention was called to Fjarill. "Der Spiegel" sung their praises; important newspapers like "Die Welt" and the "Hamburger Abendblatt" were crazy about their novel style. "Klangtip des Monats" from the magazines "Stereoplay" and "Audio" is but one of the many distinctions they were awarded. Even the radio stations in Germany took unusually brave steps: In the past year both the "NDR" as well as "Radio Bremen" have made live recordings of Fjarill’s concerts. The "mdr" described their songs as "The musical proof of the beauty which lies in simplicity, the perfection of all things natural and the power of the essential".
The journey of these two women started thousands of kilometers apart, in two very different places. In Hamburg, these two roads joined. One prominent point on this journey is the first album "Stark". Others include the many humour filled, highly acclaimed concerts. In 2008 their second album, with the fitting title , was released, with Aino once again singing in Swedish.
Contrary to what one might expect, not speaking Swedish is an advantage, because while listening to the music and reading the translation of the lyrics, there is, like on a pilgrimage, so much to discover; things often hidden by the word-games of a familiar language. Fjarill doesn’t want to be understood. They want to be felt
The music on "Pilgrim" is a musical lost-and-found with elements from both Sweden and South Africa, joined together by traditional Anglo-American and European pop music. Coupled with their lightfootedness, it exudes an overwhelming, inescapable charm. After hearing early versions of the tracks, record boss Michy Reincke was enthralled: "I doubt if anyone with a connection to Fjarill’s sentiment would have ever heard anything more beautiful. In the title song "Pilgrim" we hear, through the vocals and the violin, an entire nomad tribe embarking on a journey."
In September 2010 the third album,"Livet" , was released, the vocals once again performed in the swedish language. The completely acoustic recordings was made in the famous Bauer Studios, Ludwigsburg, enhancing the pure handmade sound of Fjarill. The songs of Livet, meaning „life“, deals with many different facettes of life and death, facing the melancholy and the lightness, the humour and the contemplative aspects. The melodies contain frisky „country-like“ violin lines as well as intense „slow-food“ balladesque vocal artworks. The piano accompaniment provides a subtle foundation through all the songs, supported by double bass and handmade percussion.
In September 2012 the first live Album of the both ladies was recorded with a gracious and big audience in Hamburg. All the songs on this album where performed as a duo formation. With piano, vocals and violin.
The new Studioalbum "Tiden" to be released in August 2013 was recorded in Italy in the great studio Artesuono by Stefano Amerio who also recorded Anouar Brahem, Tingvall Trio and several Productions of Manfed Eichel.
