The Flaming Retards are a three-piece alternative rock band from Naas, Ireland. Half mountain goat half human they consist of George Longwill his younger sister Sophie and friend Cloda O'Loughlin. Their sound has been decribed as 'Loud, loose and refreshingly original' the raw blast of guitars, vocals and drums ensure they cannot be ignored in an increasingly tame world of rock. Their songs are simple and to the point. A screaming, distorted grunge sound can be found alongside influences that include funk, soul and blues.
Formed by siblings George and Sophie Longwill the band were later rounded off by bassist Cloda O'Loughlin and soon started gigging. The group's original style is slowly etching them out a reputation on the Irish underground rock scene. So far they have played gigs in popular rock bar The Vodoo Lounge, Dublin, The Legal Eagle as well as a plethora of pubs, arts centres, theatres around Dublin and Kildare.
The Flaming Retards have also recently released a self-titled EP which they have sold several hundred of at gigs. Their single 'Depressively Elephants' has been featured on a compilation cd ('Unearthed', February 2006) with up and coming local bands and they have been interviewed on radio station KFM (March, 2006).
