BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

Flinter is Michael McGahan - a unique, 22 year old singer/songwriter from the southeastern suburbs of Brisbane - drawing from influences such as Thom York (Radiohead), Chris Isaac, and Paul Dempsey.

Biography

The raw sentiment of Michael’s song writing has been likened to the great Jeff Buckley, and the feel of his distinctive finger picking guitar style; to that of Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac). Adopting the pseudonym of ‘Flinter’, he began performing his original music with the FretFest Singer/Songwriter Showcase in early 2011, and since then has been leaving audiences across south east Queensland venues with an after-taste of moving inspiration and emotive nostalgia, through simple, yet rich acoustic masterpieces.

Michael’s promising future as an artist is already starting to take shape, in August 2011, his song ‘Ignorance’ was chosen for a compilation CD entitled ‘Deep Water – Songwriter’s in Support of the Australian Environment’, and in November 2011 his song entitled “Here’s That Love” was selected in the ‘Final 8’ of the Catapult Song Contest; a nationwide song competition which received over 3000 entries. Following this, Michael was invited to perform at the Woodford Folk Festival, as part of the emerging artist showcase in December 2012, an experience that he will never forget. More recently, he was invited to perform at the ‘Busking Tenting’ at the Byron Bay Bluesfest (April 2012), after impressing the judges at the 2012 Byron Bay Busking Competition. In May 2012 he was selected to record as part of QUT's prestigious 100 SONGS PROJECT.

For the remainder of 2012, Michael hopes to develop his promising song writing and performance skills into professional attributes, by continuing to play frequent live shows across South-East Queensland, and by hopefully releasing an EP by the end of the year.
