"INTRODUCING | NICOLE MERCEDES"

It sometimes seems fraudulent to ‘Introduce’ bands that already have a full-length album tucked inside their pockets, especially when said record was released well over a year ago, however the world is a populous place full of hidden corners and we never have the time to explore them all. Which means that bands like Nicole Mercedes (for it is a band, apparently) can slip through the cracks, sneaking passed our blinding eyes to sit quietly somewhere else, brooding and undiscovered.

Hailing from Brooklyn, All The Windows signaled their arrival back in December 2012 – and we never heard a note of it. Not until a new demo arrived last week, the title-track flying the flag for a brand new album which is set for release later this year. We looked back and found a solid debut, shimmering indie pop for the faint-hearted, then we looked forward and found ‘Legs Are Not For Running’ and we found something else. Something more considered. The instrumentation is pretty and varied, presenting a shifting but solid foundation for Nicole’s vocals to dance and spin and run across it all, completely in control but set loose and ready to fly at any given moment. Bio

Flocke, an indie chamber-pop band, is the project of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Nicole Mercedes. Growing up in Los Angeles, she was exposed to music from a young age by her mother, Ellyn Marciano, a musician of original kids’ songs (Ellyn’s Songs). The Disney soundtracks and aesthetics from those days are still a large influence on her music. In the late 90’s, Nicole’s family moved to Israel, where she played in several bands and tried out different musical genres as a teen. In 2012, Nicole recorded her first record “All the Windows,” an exploration of  lo-fi sounds and home recording, influenced by artists like Destroyer and Smog. Nicole toured Europe with the self-released album and lived in Berlin for a few months before returning to the States to find a new home in Bushwick. Flocke started when Nicole, inspired by film soundtracks and classical music, wanted to explore making more lush-sounding music, incorporating semi-orchestral arrangements into light pop songs. She teamed up with guitarist and long-time band mate Daniel Roth (Milan to Minsk) and drummer Aaron Mendelson (Isadora), using loopers and lo-fi keys to create a unique-sounding live performance. Flocke’s debut album ‘Bye Polar Bear’ was recorded with friend and producer Joe Rodgers (The Shivers, Kelli Scarr) and will be released in June 2016.
