Bio
Flutopia is a jam/jazz/rock group based in Boston, MA, led by flautist Jeremy Stein. The band features exciting original tunes, as well as new and creative interpretations of covers.
Flutopia's diverse musical flavor draws from many different styles including rock, funk and jazz. Major influences includes contemporary artists such as Medeski Martin and Wood, and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, as well as classical rock artists such as Santana and Jethro Tull.
The group's unique and exciting sound owes much to the creativity and individual style of each of its members: Davy Nathan, whose piano style has been called 'brilliant' and 'positively electric,' moves from intense ferocity to a tender and colorful approach.
Glenn Zeringue's guitar style ranges from the sophistication of fusion artists, such as Pat Metheny, to the soulful melodic playing of the great blues artists to the raw energy of classic rock artists such as Jimmy Page.
Jeremy Stein leans towards the aggressive flute styles of Roland Kirk and Ian Anderson, but also has solid foundations in classical and be-bop music. Bassist Katsuomi Goto and drummer Mike Casano add solid support to the wirlwind of emotion and musical expression which is Flutopia.
Flutopia has been performing in New England clubs and coffee houses and has drawn enthusiastic audiences to each show.
'Flutopia is an innovative band with a fresh sound and energetic players. They're definitely worth checking out.'
