"Musicians for Earth Day want to inspire change"

These activists are getting in tune with Earth Day.

As part of Earth Day New York, a concert this Saturday at Grand Central features bands that want to use their music to encourage people to save and protect the Earth.

Many of the bands proclaim lyrics or philosophies about treating the planet well and focus on making positive impacts on the world.

Patrick Ermlich, a music organizer from The Outlet Collective, said that they carefully chose the bands for that reason -- not only to showcase New York's music scene, but to highlight "inspiring change and taking action -- the common threads that bind each artist together."

For example, New York City-based hip-hop group Kinetics & One Love focuses on global warming in some of their music. Their song "The High Line" honors the city's High Line, transformed from abandoned train tracks to an elevated park and walkway where New Yorkers can walk, read and relax.

And the Whispering Tree, a duo who are a vegan and a vegetarian, say they believe "a song can effect more change than a thousand politicians."

Members of PushMethod, which is performing Saturday, said that for Earth Day, they want to raise awareness for developing better energy sources.

"You could also call it 'human day,' for it's really the future and fate of the human race we're fighting for," Michael Dustin Youree of PushMethod said. "We need a healthy planet in order to have a healthy human race."

And FlyinFisch, another scheduled performer, said that they try to use music to encourage people to help the planet.

"We want people to have fun and enjoy the possibilities of life, and an integral part of this means we must focus and make sure our one and only home, Earth, is healthy and happy too," lead singer and songwriter Adrian Fischer said.

Fischer added, "It's easy to lose sight of the impact that even the smallest positive action can make."

"Introducing...Flyin Fisch"

As wide-eyed children, we learn that skipping a rock off of a pond creates a ripple effect. The further a rock skips, the greater the reach of the waves. As adults, we forget that we are the rocks, and the extent of the waves we create. Adrian Fischer's full length LP Always Dreaming challenges you to think about the rest of the pond.

This message drives the album into a variety of musical genres, simultaneously stopping at all of them and none of them along its journey. It oozes this bright outlook through poly-rhythmic bass walks and drum lines, pouring out energetic guitar riffs and atmospheric key arrangements. The project explores a variety of energies, with gutsy percussion and catchy melodies that seep into open, spacey vibes.

Fischer's musical foundation is built upon his personal view, cemented by his constant trade of pain for positivity. He also solidifies it by drawing on his Venezuelan heritage, a common thread that lead to his collaboration with Grammy nominee Jose Luis Pardo (Los Amigos Invisibles).

"Rather than bare the troubled soul of 'the blues,' I wanted my music focus on the wisdom and joy that we gain from life," said Adrian Fischer, the act's creator. "It's easy to lose sight of the impact that even the smallest positive action can make."

"FlyinFisch-Always Dreaming-Album"

Flyinfisch is a pop, reggae and everything in between group hailing from New York, NY. Their full-length record, Always Dreaming, will hit shelves on May 1. The group is the brainchild of lead vocalist Adrian Fischer as their stuff utilizes many different styles and genres. Trained since age six in jazz piano, a young Fischer became versed in Venezuelan forms of percussion and over the years, he was increasingly fascinated with layers of syncopation and recording music. Falling around him are Jose Luis Pardo on guitars and Chris De Rosa on drums. Flyinfisch’s music really showcases all of the group’s different backgrounds and interests with their assorted sounds.

The album’s title-track, “Always Dreaming,” ushers listeners into a somewhat dreamlike state with its smooth, flowing chorus and slow, calm bridge. Despite dragging on for what seemed like too long, it’s definitely a solid track. Other peaceful tracks bring a lot to this multifaceted album including “Flow,” “All The Same,” and “Love Is.” On the other end of the spectrum are songs like “Baby Don’t Want To Go” and “Let’s Do It,” with their awesome bass, fun ambiance and their ability to give my feet that incessant want to move. “Orange Crossing,” however, is probably the best cut off the record with its awesome heavy guitar riffs and high-octane fun.

There’s a little bit of everything on this album, and from the “dreamlike” sounds, to the fun poppy ones, to the even borderline trippy parts of “Don’t Give In,” you don’t know what to expect next. The only thing you can expect is that you’re going to be impressed with Adrian Fischer and his group Flyinfisch. They were able to take a lot of very unique sounds and bring them together and make them their own very successfully on this disc. I was extremely pleased.

Isaac: We'd love to know more about your inspirations growing up. I hear so many influences in your music. How old were you when you first discovered music? Is there any kind of musical history in your family?

AF: Growing between Venezuela (where I was born) and the Caribbean, I heard a lot of merengue (Juan Luis Guerra), reggae (Bob Marley), and Caribbean dance music (like calypso). At home, my parents would play lots of classical music from Verdi to Mozart. Later on, I searched for new wave and electronic music (from Jean Michelle Jarre and Josh Wink to Asian Dub Foundation and Leftfield) and also got really into rock and alternative rock (everything from Def Leppard, Metallica, Led Zepellin and Soungarden to Beck). The thing is I never really stayed in a specific genre for too long because I loved discovering new gems. I've always been on a kind of never-ending musical discovery quest! I started playing drums and piano when I was about six years old. There isn't a musical history in my family except for their love of music.

Isaac: What drew you to pick up an instrument in the first place?

AF: The instruments seemed to call me.

Isaac: As you hit your teenage years, did you know that this was what you would be doing for the rest of your life?

AF: I would spend hours playing the piano and the drums; in high school I requested special projects to get out of sports and do music instead I knew early on that music would always be my life.

Isaac: Is there a performer in any genre of pop culture that you would like to work with?

AF: That's a hard one because there are too many, but my long life dream has been to work with Beck.

Isaac: Who are some musicians that you really like, present or past?

AF: Another hard question because it's so far reaching. I really admire Bjork's work. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, The Gladiators and Lee Scratch Perry's work have been huge influences. Charlie Mingus and Phish. I love Shpongle. Lately, I got quite into the vibe that MGMT trips on. As I mentioned, it's hard to reduce that even to twenty artists.

Isaac: What is your ultimate goal with your music career?

AF: I would like to feel that the music and vibe I create has had an uplifting impact on people's life.

Isaac: What has been some of the obstacles it has taken to get this far in your career?

AF: Self doubt and too much well funded bad music filling the air and mind space. As well as, having to deal with some people with fake intentions along the way.

Isaac: Would you recommend this "field" to others who are aspiring to be musicians like you?

AF: If they feel they can't breathe without doing music, yes!

Isaac: Describe one piece of advice you've have been given to by others in the music industry.

AF: The filtering process is really tough so unless you're fully devoted and seriously skilled at what you do don't even bother!

Isaac: What genre of music do you consider most of your music?

AF: Pop and electronic.

Isaac: What has been your favorite piece of work?

AF: Up & Down, because it reflects so closely the way that I often feel and it encompasses my central message, that no matter how you feel, if you center your life around love, everything makes sense.

Isaac: How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

AF: I have my website with a lot of music on it that can be streamed for free (flyinfisch.com). I'm on Facebook, MySpace (myspace.com/flyinfisch) and ReverbNation. And my first self-titled EP is on iTunes, Amazon and Rhapsody.

Isaac: Is there anyone you'd like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

AF: My amazing beautiful wife! My loving family! And the wonderful supportive fans!

Isaac: Any last words?

AF: Thank you so much for the interview, I hope your readers enjoy it, discover new music and come to the shows. One Love & Higher Consciousness.

Isaac: They will love this interview!

"FlyinFisch Self Titled"

FlyinFisch, the new project of modern-day-renaissance-man Adrian Fischer, is set to release its self-titled debut album on March 19th. With each song representing a unique exploration into the experiences and cultural influences that have formed his musical identity, Fischer’s new album is a sonic journey that should not be missed.

With tour dates throughout February to support the upcoming release, Adrian is pleased to be hitting the road again, and introducing his material to new audiences.

If you try to pinpoint where Adrian has been the last ten years, you’ll notice that he hasn’t stayed in one place for very long. Having lived everywhere from Venezuela to New York City, and many places in between, Adrian Fischer’s story is one of travel, exploration, and evolution. The resulting musical sound is as difficult to characterize as Adrian is – influenced by the tones and sounds of each place he has lived, his style is a blend of classical, reggae, pop, and afro-Caribbean influences, with each element representing a snapshot in his decade-long journey.

In FlyinFisch’s debut album, Adrian has brilliantly fused his influences into one solid and united offering. While still clearly referencing the cultures and sounds that inform his music, Adrian has now moved a step further, developing a sound that is uniquely his own. With an interest in the natural world linking many of the songs together, and a desire to promote what Adrian calls “positive consciousness” providing the album’s context, FlyinFisch’s first offering is meant to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages and cultures, who will hopefully be brought together by Adrian’s message of unity and love.

His single, “Orange Crossing,” channels a heavy influence from Jamiroquai, modernly echoing the funk legend’s dancing guitars and pulsing percussion. Lyrically, the track follows the feel-good flow of artists like Bob Marley and Michael Franti. The song will make you move, the lyrics will make you smile, and you’ll stop and consider just how far that smile can go.
