"Absolutepunk.net Every Breathing Moment Review"

"I really cannot endorse Fly Upright Kite enough. The band has easily issued one of my top 5 EPs of 2006. Take note folks - I would be surprised if these guys did not take off soon." - Steve Henderson, AbsolutePunk.net

"WBCN Every Breathing Moment Review"

"FLY UPRIGHT KITE has a gem of a release with 'every breathing moment.' the best thing I can tell you is check them out and listen for yourself, like I did." - Shred, Boston Booking Agent/Former WBCN Music Director

"DailyChorus.com Review"

"Somehow they manage to separate themselves from their contemporaries by keeping each of the songs intriguing and mellow at the same time. I have no idea how this band isn't signed yet." - DailyChorus.com

FLY UPRIGHT KITE

Weightless

6-song CD

This is obviously a band that cares not only about making good music, but making music good. The songs on this album are lush, soaring, and anthemic, with layers of guitars, vocals, and ambience. While at times, this could sound like Sigur Ros and Coldplay had a bastard Autotune child, each song is memorable and powerful. The violin plays a major role in this band, equal to the guitar in mix, in a scene where such a thing would be relegated to “special guest” status merely window dressing. To me, this is what a perfect album sounds like. Eargasms like this are rare and elusive. Please make more music soon! (Joel Simches) - The Noise

Bio

In a music scene that is becoming more reliant on digital promotion and dominated by online music sites and services, some degree of the sincerity found in music seems to be fading. Boston's indie group Fly Upright Kite is a project whose aim is to preserve this sincerity by crafting music and a performance which is as much an emotional experience as it is a musical one. Fly Upright Kite's dynamic blend of indie rock resonates deeply with every listener and viewer. Imagine the melodic sincerity and grace of artists like Copeland and Jeremy Enigk hitting you with the epic power of bands such as Circa Survive and Sigur Ros. This is the sound of Fly Upright Kite.

In 2005, Asad Rahman (Lead Vocals, Guitar) met Liam McCormack (Bass) and Jarred Grant (Drums) while attending college in Boston. Holland Dieringer (Violin), also studying in town, brought the textural complexities of the violin to a rock band setting and thus completed the band's line up.

In April of 2006 the band released "Every Breathing Moment", their highly anticipated debut EP. Engineered and mixed by Kenny Lewis (Stryper, Journey), this promising collection of 5 songs has won over fans across the nation. Fly Upright Kite's "Every Breathing Moment" disc has also brought them the attention of the popular music website AbsolutePunk.net, who in 2006 credited their debut EP as one of the top 5 EPs of 2006. More recently, AbsolutePunk named Fly Upright Kite one of the "Absolute 100" - a list of top 100 up and coming bands of 2007. In addition, the EP's radio single, "Burn Out", is a favorite among local DJs and has received frequent airplay on popular regional radio stations WBCN, WXRV, and WFNX.

Fly Upright Kite has had the honor of sharing the stage with national touring bands The New Amsterdams, Umbrellas, Brandston, Lovedrug, As Tall As Lions, Owen, Anathalo, Moneen, and The Hush Sound. Through their textured yet accessible sound, the band is attracting new listeners to their dedicated fan base every day.

In April of 2009, Fly Upright Kite released their much anticipated "Weightless" EP, which was recorded by Mike Poorman (Hot Rod Circuit, The Receiving End of Sirens, Paulson) and mixed by Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Moneen). Their new material exhibits a higher level of maturity and sonic complexity crafted into a sound that maintains the commanding honesty found in their earlier work. Having completed an initital east coast tour in support of the "Weightless" EP, Fly Upright Kite plans to spend much of 2009 on the road sharing their new material with audiences everywhere.
