"Flywright Straightens Up"

Last week, David Hull found Internet fame -- for a day, at least -- and now he's hoping his band Flywright can be crowned Famous in Fresno.

A video of Hull playing Mozart on a bass guitar finished at No. 3 on MySpace's most-watched videos on Oct. 4, amassing close to 200,000 views. ("Mozart A La Bass" is what he titled the video; that's how you can search for it.)

Saturday night at Babylon Club, however, Hull's band Flywright, is in a battle of the bands sponsored by radio station KALZ, 96.7 FM.

It's called Famous in Fresno and will give one band a spot at the Oct. 24 Fall-Tini event at the Fresno Convention Center.

Flywright faces stiff competition from the soulful (and popular) Super Lucky Catz, as well as More Than Without and Co-Pilot.

The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $5. Babylon is at 1064 N. Fulton St.

"Flywright and friends"

Local rock band Flywright is making waves on the Internet again. First it was bass player David Hull's viral videos on MySpace; now, the band is faring pretty well in a contest sponsored by Spin magazine.

Flywright has hovered around the top 15 of the 700 bands in the field, which wraps up voting Saturday night. Two of those 700 bands will advance to the contest's quarterfinals. - Fresno Bee

Check out the video below. Meanwhile, two more of his videos, Dueling Banjos for Solo Bass Guitar and Dizzy Fingers have also cracked the top 20. - Fresno Beehive

2007; LP, "Box Set"
2008; LP, "Hush Your Fuss"

The story of Flywright is a simple one. It all started when four friends in high school latin jazz decided form a rock band for fun rather than their original idea of a mock rap crew.Sleeping Giant was formed and from then on they played shows local shows in high school and into their early college years (including a notable Fresno Warped Tour Performance) But in early 2007 a Christian metal band who was also going by the same name at the time tells them to cease and desist the use of the name. End Sleeping Giant enter Flywright.. And since July 2007, The band has played over 40 dates around California including notable venues such as Busby’s East and The Derby Lounge in Los Angeles,CA., and have just recently completed and released a early version of their second LP “Hush Your Fuss” which is available on Itunes.
