"Christian rap group tries a different beat"

FOG is not just the thick mist you drive through on a Monday morning; it's a gospel group that intends to bring souls to Christ.

For almost two years, FOG, which stands for Followers of God, have performed in local churches to minister to audiences.

"We are a ministry first, and there's nothing more important than seeing souls get saved," said Aerin Lofton, a FOG member.

It started one day when a group of friends were sitting around freestyle rapping after a family and friends day service at Everlasting Word of Faith church. They decided to take rapping more seriously. They wanted to spread the word of God through hip-hop and R&B.

"Saving souls is the main goal," said Juan Grimes, a FOG member.

The group's ages range from 19 to 28, and all of its lyrics are scripturally based. The members try to focus more on a younger audience, but they tend to capture an older audience as well.

"We do it to a beat that older people would love," Lofton said.

Everyone in the all-male, six-member group has a specific talent. Some can hold notes and others just rap, Grimes said.

All the members are natives of Ocala and come from all walks of life.

Before Grimes dedicated his life to God, he was resentful.

Some of his friends were already attending church and tried to convince Grimes it would be a great experience for him. He went to Bible study, then Bible study turned into church and before you knew it, Grimes became a member of the church.

Lofton is church-bred, and through teachings and experiences he realized how serious it is to reach people who don't know God.

FOG's long-term goal is to reach as many people as possible, especially children, while on this earth, Lofton said.

Lofton and Grimes said the group doesn't just distribute a specific genre, they are tapping into Christian modern-day rock and modern-day country as well, Grimes said.

"We have worship songs, praise songs and contemporary-style Christian music," he said.

The group wants to reach people on different levels, he said.

"In order to go out (minister), you got to be versatile," Lofton said.

Lofton's dad, Pastor Freddie Lofton, is a full supporter of the group.

"Their lifestyle is really who they are," Pastor Lofton said.

Pastor Lofton saw how God changed their lives. God placed it in their hearts to write lyrics to spread the word, he said.

"That just impressed me."
Members of FOG look forward to their first-ever concert tonight at the Everlasting Word of Faith church that holds 125 seats. As members of this group, they hope to win souls, entertain and put on a good show. They look forward to a sold-out performance, Aerin Lofton said.

Our Pastors are Pastor Freddie and Ruth Lofton of Everlasting Word of Faith Ministries, located in Ocala, FL.

Our music is literally like no other. We sound like nobody else. We don't try to be anybody else, we are who we are. We make music and write songs so that all who are willing to hear and listen can have a chance to find out who God really is. Our music is about letting the whole world know how good God is. Ministry is our focus. We offer families, young and old, positive music that they can listen to and move to. Every song that we sing and perform has a message in it. We are original, our music is 100% our music. In essence, our music is music that Teens and Young Adults, will bump in their ride, while the Older Adults and elderly won't mind listening to the positive and uplifting beats.

Our greatest desire is to minister Jesus to the hearts of all people through Christian Rap. Our greatest ambition is to demonstrate to the world that God, through Jesus Christ forgives us our sins no matter how bad or ugly they may be. Our testimony is that no matter how low you go, God can lift you up, no matter how crooked the road you've travelled, God can put you on the straight and narrow, and no matter where you are, God is there waiting to hear you say Come in Jesus I accept you as Lord and Saviour of my life.
