"Swingvision Emmy for CBS"

CBS Sports' SwingVision Wins Sports Emmy for Innovative Technical Achievement

CBS Sports won the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Innovative Technical Achievement for SwingVision on May 1. SwingVision uses various high-speed cameras that shoot at 40,000 frames per second, capturing unique pictures such as the compression of a golf ball upon impact or the subtle nuances of a player's swing. SwingVision was developed by CBS Sports and first used on the PGA TOUR in 2004 and later for the 2004 U.S. Open Tennis Championships on CBS.

Peter Kostis, CBS Sports on-course reporter and analyst who uses SwingVision throughout CBS's golf coverage, on SwingVision: SwingVision has been absolutely fantastic. In all my years at CBS this is the one thing that has gotten the most positive feedback from the viewers. A week doesn't go by where I don't get dozens of emails from people thanking me for learning something that helped their golf game or comments about the "cool" pictures of the ball in the sand. Viewers really want to learn something for the next time they tee it up and they do from the SwingVision. The pictures are so incredibly clean and accurate. It allows people to see things that you wondered if that had really happened before. A couple of players have told me they saw their SwingVision and have gone back and went to work on some changes because of what they saw.

"Dachinger's FORE! Set To Rock Saxon Woods"

Fore! which features Dachinger on saxophone, and Derby singing and playing guitar and David Longworth on drums, has played a few gigs over the past months, but will debut locally at Arturo's 19th Hole restaurant at Saxon Woods Golf Course on Thursday, May 24, at 8 p.m.

"One of the things we're doing to keep the process fresh is playing some of the music live," Dachinger said. "We’ll play some of this music and we're planning an album of music with vocals, all songs about golf."

Among songs already penned are "Par Tee Time," about a group of golfers each with their own problems with the game. It's got a real funky groove to it. Another is a ballad about Tiger Woods.

"We've all played in cover bands before, and that's fun, but this is more interesting and challenging to create some music for live performance," Dachinger said. "And golf is a very popular sport. The thing is that first off we're writing for ourselves. We started by finding some topics we could write about, like Tiger Woods.

"I think we could get pretty much and album's worth of material on him because he's such an icon. He's had such an impact on sports in general, not just golf."

Whether he's sitting home in the studio or playing a live set, Dachinger's career has been in full swing, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

Bio

We have helped define the sound of golf on CBS, and it ain't that mushy ole Muzak any more! Hip young TV producers are pushing the envelope, and directing the broadcast for a broader audience.

"Hasta La Vista", which is heard with CBS's Emmy-Award winning SwingVision, and "Fore Score", often heard during highlights of Tiger, Phil and Vijay were written by Dachinger and Derby. In addition, we write tracks for opening teases, beauty shots of Pebble Beach or Augusta National, inter-cut with the visual drama of the contest. And there are numerous bumpers to commercials- where you'll hear edgy rock reminiscent of Cold Play and Green Day.

FORE! has performed live concerts and parties at Dutchess County Stadium, Davis Park, Saxon Grill, Quaker Ridge Golf Club, Mount Kisco Golf Club, NoHo Arts Festival in NYC and NY Presbyterian Hospital. See our setlist for a sampling of songs we play.

We hunkered down at FireTrax Studio in Westchester, NY, and began writing and recording songs about golf. "Par Tee Time", "Double Bogey Boogie", "Tiger Would" and "For The Love of The Game" are a few of the new tracks for their new album "Fairway Tales".

Influenced by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, Tower of Power, and Trevor Rabin, their music is accessible, danceable funky rock.

Dachinger has performed with "Allson Funk Band" and Viceroy artists "The Suits". Guitarist Bill Derby has shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen and Eartha Kitt, and performed on albums with Edgar Winter, Gary US Bonds and others. He is also collaborating with Kate Taylor on songs for her upcoming album.

They are joined on stage by RocketMeister Mikey Del on guitar and vocals, and the PocketMeister, David Longworth on drums.
