"Introducing: Foreign Fields"

Foreign Fields (formerly Flights) are the newest Bandcamp sensation - their popularity even got them to physically release their debut album Anywhere But Where I Am. The duo spent 2011 recording it in an abandoned office building in the dead of Wisconsin winter. Wisconsin also happens to be Justin Vernon’s (of Bon Iver) hometown, which is probably the best band to compare Foreign Fields with. The subtle piano, cello and violin touches take it to the next level. Indie folk on its best.

Mark of yvynyl says it best: “Foreign Fields’ music has the depth of a deep green lake, one you watch through the seasons; from summer swimming to frozen white. The richness here is full and deep, and you should find a good long book and a quiet corner and listen to the entirety of this record over and over with headphones and a pot of hot tea.”

You probably have high expectations of Foreign Fields after this little piece of text and the comparance with the Grammy-awarded Bon Iver, but I am confident your expectations will be met. I present you: Foreign Fields’ astonishing debut album Anywhere But Where I Am - available as a stream and/or free download below, but you’ll end up ordering a physical copy before you’ve even finished the first play of this beauty. - Disco Naivete

"YVYNYL"

Stumbling upon an album as good as this duo’s debut LP is not the kind of luck that happens every day. Eric Hillman and Brian Holl’s music has the depth of a deep green lake, one you watch through the seasons; from summer swimming to frozen white. The richness here is full and deep, and you should find a good long book and a quiet corner and listen to the entirety of this record over and over with headphones and a pot of hot tea.
Get the Anywhere But Where I Am LP - “recorded in an abandoned office building in the dead of Wisconsin winter and our home studio in Nashville’s sweltering summer” - for a donation on their Bndcmp. - YVYNYL

"Smoke Don't Smoke"

Maybe it’s the rain today that makes this song/album hit so heavy. The rain always does that. But boy am I glad Mark stumbled on this, and decided to share. The album plays as a soundtrack for the contemplative wandering soul. The album title, Anywhere But Where I Am reminds me of a quote by French poet and philosopher Charles Baudelaire:

“It always seems to me that I should feel well in the place where I am not…”

But, contentment is a strong force, and halfway through this album, I already feel it setting in. That we may be happy wherever we are. - Smoke Don't Smoke

Bio

Foreign Fields is an electronic folk group that hails from the wintry plains of Wisconsin. New Years day of 2011 they met in their hometown, in an abandoned office building, to begin work on their first full length LP "Anywhere But Where I Am". Having no set plan or guide, the album grew naturally as they left their lives in the north for the rivers of Tennessee. Days after self-releasing on Bandcamp in January 2012, the album began to catch the attention of notable tastemaker blogs and worldwide critics alike.
