"Forever & Never"

REVIEWED BY SHEENA BARNETT
Scene Now

More than anything, Forever & Never sounds ready.

Ready to record a full length album, ready to rock thousands on a tour, ready to take over the world.

That’s the sound created by the band on its first EP, “Calling The Shots.” The guys of Forever & Never blend their individual styles, which range from metal to indie rock, into a unique sound that shows its many colors in just the five songs that make up “Calling The Shots.” From the sexy, steady rock of “Calling The Shots” to the intimacy of “Bloodshot Eyes,” Forever & Never shows off everything they can do – while hinting at more – on the EP.

“Heart Is Sick” kicks off the EP with an infectious energy. Forever & Never mixes heavy riffs with a radio-friendly feel, so the song already sounds like a hit.

Forever & Never make a solid pop-punk sound with extra punk on “Not Looking for Love,” while hints of metal creep below the surface of “Crashing Down.”

“Bloodshot Eyes” is Forever & Never at its most intimate and vulnerable. “She treats me right/So I try not to screw it up/These bloodshot eyes/No, they don’t lie/No matter how hard I try to cover it up,” vocalist Tyler Eden sings with quiet sincerity. His performance is stellar.

The best song is easily the title track. “Calling The Shots” sets out to seduce the listener from the beginning, and it succeeds. The sexy lyrics work with the dark, mysterious feel of the music to create an unforgettable song.

“Calling the Shots” ends with a remix of the title track, a fun, different take on the song.

“Calling The Shots” is an excellent start for Forever & Never. The EP does exactly what an EP should – it proves that the band is ready to tackle a full-length album, and it leaves fans hungry for more.

"Calling The Shots EP"

Calling the Shots, the brand spankin’ new EP from alternative rockers Forever and Never proves that the next big thing in the world of rock music is coming straight out of Fulton, Mississippi. This 5 song EP is raw enough for those who like more aggressive rock but polished enough for mainstream radio. Front man Tyler Eden’s voice is raw yet melodically beautiful.

The first track Heart is Sick displays the band’s ability to really create a mood with their music. Eden sings with such passion that you can’t help but to feel a connection with him. But the music behind the voice is just as passionate and adds that much more depth to this amazing band. Calling the Shots, the title track off the EP is powerfully sexy and catchy. Not Looking For Love is guitar driven and edgy.

Crashing Down, my favorite song on the EP, is captivating and heartbreakingly beautiful. The remorse-ridden Bloodshot Eyes slows things down a bit and showcases not only their musical ability but also their ability to write lyrics that people can relate to. The album comes to a close with a fantastic remix of Calling the Shots. I must admit these fellas are my new addiction! I hope to see Forever and Never around for forever and ever! - themusiccitymuse.com

Bio

Hailing from Northeast MS, Forever & Never is a vocally driven, aggressive, catchy and sexy alternative rock band. The band's lineup is made up of five distinct musical personalities.

Who do they sound like? Think 30 Seconds To Mars meets Story of the Year.

Their music delivers plenty of punch for fans of heavy rock, but also satisfies listeners with the guilty melodic pleasures of radio-rock. Forever & Never has a knack for converting anyone who hears them live into fans.

While writing songs for their new EP, the band found itself coming from a different perspective than many other bands in its genre.

"Instead of writing songs about always being the victim, we opened up about our own flaws," says vocalist Tyler Eden. "Sometimes we have nobody to blame but ourselves for the bad things that happen in our lives."

Forever & Never has shared the stage with the likes of City Sleeps, For Today, School Boy Humor, Wavorly, Taproot, Egypt Central, Inked in Blood, The Messenger and many others.
The EP is available at select Hot Topic locations in MS, TN and AL, all Mississippi FYE locations as well as FYE in Memphis, TN, all Be Bop Record Shop locations and online from all major digital retailers (i.e. iTunes and Amazon).
