Bio

Formally Lethargic is a punk/hard rock band hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio. Its members are Alex Kah (bass, lead vocals), Zach Ruble (guitar, vocals), and Tony Maccarone (drums). Kah and Ruble are both former members of Cincinnati-based acts (the pop-punk band Drum Machine? and the defunct classic hard rock band Winter Rising, respectively). United by a common passion for music, the high school valedictorian Kah, the actor Ruble, and the ghost hunting aficionado Maccarone formed Formally Lethargic in May 2011. Formally Lethargic has performed at several venues in the Cincinnati area, including Bogart's, the Thompson House, Madison Theater, the Underground, Xenos, the Mad Frog, and Fogartys Pub. They have played with a few signed talents such as A Dying Regime, Violent Affair, and The Casualties.

Formally Lethargic has a variety of influences due to the members diverse musical backgrounds. They grew up on everything from classical to country to classic rock. The band cites influences ranging from Reel Big Fish to Slayer, but its chief influences are Avenged Sevenfold, Anthrax, Pennywise, Sum 41, and NOFX. Some have compared Formally Lethargics sound to that of Bad Religion or The Descendents. Most songs written by Formally Lethargic feature double-time drum parts, power chord-based guitar riffs, and clean-sounding vocals with a pitch in the baritone to tenor range. Almost every song includes a guitar solo.

Formally Lethargics first album entitled "SocietyWhat Society?" was recorded at Moonlight Studios in December 2012. Most of the tracks on the album stay true to the punk genre, but others such as Hero Within Me and The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street showcase the bands ability to blend in alternative and metal styles, respectively.
