"The Local"

Formative Years, "Prosperity"
It's often difficult to distinguish yourself as a band when dealing with a certain alternative rock aesthetic—either you're too bound to the genre, coming across as simply someone clinging desperately to the past, or you're so focused on the future that you forget the mistakes made by groups who withered and died in the glare of the genre. For Chattanooga rockers Formative Years, though, the melodic balance between the past, present and future is one that seems to come naturally and allows them to forge their musical identity without feeling overly beholden to any one band or trend. Their music is quickly paced and ferocious, leaving a trail of broken instruments and strained vocals in its wake.

Recently, the band released their new record, "Prosperity," a set of five songs that slither their way deep into your head. Veering between a more subtle rock sound that favors complicated arrangements and some peculiar pop tendencies before launching into a rock assault, the band isn't shy about showcasing their abilities. And by giving us some insight into their influences through the music, the band provides a window into each member's formative musical upbringing. Combining a bit of punk ferocity, emo attitude and lo-fi brevity, they create a record that feels like it flies by in no time. - Nooga.Com

Bio

Founded in a seemingly accidental manner, Formative Years boasts growth, be it spiritual, mental, emotional, or physical. Growth has been an integral part of each member's lives; facing adversities such as the loss of loved ones, dropping out of college, and even battles with substance. Formative Years are resilient. They believe in their music, and their art. Each note is a decoration. Each song, a room. Each record, a house. The tour starts with music, and ends with connection. Would you like to come in?
