Formed on Wednesday

 Christchurch, Canterbury, NZL
BandRockAlternative

A band born in Invercargill and raised in Christchurch. A mix of punk guitar riffs, ballads and rhythmic art.

Biography

The story behind the band name is one of great disorganisation.

In August 2011, original members Matt, Elliot and Ricky formed the band 2 days before a local music competition. Despite never playing together the band played one newly written song and one of Matt's older songs. Despite not placing, the band tasted the fun of performing together.

After the departure of Elliot in late 2013, new drummer and previous collaborator, Cody, joined the band. He performed a brief string of shows before Matt and Cody recorded the first studio album for the band, V.

Ricky departed the band in early 2014 during the recording of the album so Matt stepped into the bass role on the recordings as well as Guitar, Piano and Vocals. After successful sessions for V the band became quiet, only playing three shows that year including a charity concert. Ricky joined in for these final shows before each member went to pursue their education.

Finally, with the release of V in mid-2015, Matt found a new path for FOW as a solo project. He started work on the next studio album while in his first year of University. After initially trashing the 12 songs that were meant to appear on the album Matt wrote and released the award winning album, Golden Man.

Tears of the Innocent

Written By: Matt Joll

Faded Lips
Lifeless look
Coming from a once beaming face.

Pale skin
Cold as stone
No more pain for the undeserving

Wheni close my eyes
I think to myself
That this was for the best,
Noone is as strong as you
For what you did
No more Tears of the Innocent.

Looking back on those
Last moments
Theres nothingmore I would've said

You will live on
Inside each of us
Even if you dont make it through.

When I close my eyes
I think to myself
That this was for the best
None is as strong as you
For what you did
No more Tears of the Innocent.

Take me from this hospital bed
Whether it be with life or un avoidable death
May her spirit go with the one she loves
May her love go on and on.

When I close my eyes
I think to myself
That this was for the best
Noone is as strong as you
For what you did
No more Tears of the Innocent.

When I close my eyes
I think to myself
That this was for the best
Noone is as strong as you
For what you did
No more Tears of the Innocent.

The Five Of Us Are Dying

The Five Of Us Are Dying
Lyrics by Matt Joll
Music by Formed on Wednesday

On my knees
Begging for my love back
Looking up to the sky
Can’t make it through this
The heart lingers on
The love will carry on
Heart always with you, wish you were here to feel it.

Gone, lost but never forgotten and the chaos is controlling my mind.
That’s killing us!

Loss cutting through
Like a knife through my chest
The blade of a killer
The thief of a life
Believing a lie
It’ll be okay
I don’t see what you’re saying
When the five of us are dying!

Praying for the chance I never got
Now that its time
Seems life is just a lie
The heart of my thoughts collide
Imaginative thoughts
Heart always leaving me, and burning in my metaphorical hell!

Can’t forget the chance I never got, but finding hard to forget
Saying its not worth remembering, well it is to me!

The five of us are passing, the lifeline is fading
Send a salute to the grave
Say your goodbyes to the ones that you know
And farewell to the deathwish that’s taken it toll

The five of us are dying, the five of us are dying, the five of us are dying
The life line is fading
Send a salute to the grave. As the thoughts will never linger
Farewell to the deathwish.

We'll Carry On

We'll Carry On
Lyrics by Matt Joll
Music by Formed on Wednesday
Performed by Formed on Wednesday

Life falls dim
Thoughts cursed
You are gone, but we’ll carry on.

Love that’s lost
But forever found
Soul is raised but we’ll carry on.

A life has faded, a soul returned
The mind that lives knows it’s true.
When I die, I’ll be with you
Forever life to live with you.

We’ll Carry On, through it all
Our lives will lead the way.
To set the stone of our lives
That live long after death.
The final call, the last crusade.
Spirit guided through the sage.
Eternal life blessed by you, your life
And We’ll Carry On.

My mind is set on the thought of you
You’ll be with me and we’ll carry on.

It’s been a while
Problems stirred
You lift my heart, so we’ll carry on.

Forever I will be with you
From now and on I promise you
Though we live, we’ll be with you
Forever life, fair and true.

I can’t see you through the fog
I never thought it’d be like this
You lift my heart and make it light
So I might carry on.

For As Long As I Can

Written By: Matt Joll

For As Long As I Can
Lyrics by Matt Joll
Music by Formed on Wednesday
Performed by Formed on Wednesday, additional drums by Cody Demchy

My minds bursting at the seams and im struggling to keep a hold.
The chaos flying from my mind with memories long forgotten.
Strapped to a moment that is burning from the film
Memories of the moments where my world had slowly stopped

World kept spinning ‘round for them
though it stopped for you and me.

The day is ending for us both
and now your gone, im hoping still
that you’ll hold on for as long as you will.
But now that your night has fallen and it clouding up my life
I’m struggling to keep a hold to you
For As Long As I Can.

A loss has halted everything, theres tears behind my words
Page after page, mourning your demise.
Got to get away from the hole it dug me
You’re gone, I won’t forget
But I have to move on.

Jansens rumbling from the bass
Reality is nothing with my guitar in my hand

Night is watching over me.
I’m cramping from confusion.
My mind is lost to never find
the will for acceptance.

I’ve got a feeling that the light shines for a reason.
I know that one day I’ll be happy to be alive.
Trying to get to sleep
So that I may live it like you want me to.

The name was written in his blood, a hand print on the wall.
Another lost soul, gasping for attention.

Gripped to his guitar, death thoughts through his mind.
Consciousness sedated from the open world.

Dearly beloved, do you hear my prayer tonight?
Another life has split from the way, the truth, the life.
Forgotten heart from a man in need of grace.
His pains rippling from his heart, and tripping in his mind.

Cursed back to a cheerful child, a boy knows right from wrong.
Knelt beside his bed that night, prayed for the love of a girl.
15 years later hes given up the fight.
Tired of being forgotten, his wounds won’t go unseen.

Dearly beloved, do you hear my prayer tonight?
A soul has split from the way, the truth, the life.
Forgotten heart from a man in need of grace.
His pains rippling from his heart, and tripping in his mind.

Memories open up, repressed from his heart.
Of Love once found in path of lighter times.

Once a little boy, mature at a low.
Now no man of faith with scars on his wrists.

Terrorised inside, destroyed to this day.
Gotta get away from this home that’s got to me.

Paranoia bred, jolted for the day.
Gotta get away from the damned, DONT WANNA STAY!

Im going to find her, as long as I know she’s on the run.
Ill get to her, and ill let her know.

Terrorised and pushed aside for far too long.
Im leaving all of this behind, ill be lucky to be alive.
