From Kentucky by way of purgatory, FORMERLY GHOSTS is the shamanic concoction of the incendiary guitars of Ben Ferrell and Sebastien Hue mixed with the thumping grooves spilling out of Jonathan Shookâs bass amp. The result is a macabre alchemy of carefully crafted tunes that envelope the listener in a wall of sound, giving way to delicate interludes, then weaving it all back together, blurring the lines between arresting beauty and maddening ferocity.
Influence of 1990s indie rock is apparent, but despite the band's name, FORMERLY GHOSTS is not just a collection of re-incarnated rockers melding the best of guitar rock, sardonic lyrics that might not be sardonic and orchestral jams. FORMERLY GHOSTS cannot be contained in dead words and demonstrative narratives attempting to describe something like a sound, a person, or a band. FORMERLY GHOSTS is an experience, the bi-product of chemical-fueled mayhem, winter mornings and the feeling of being watched.
Sonic Youth, Gary Busey and John Wayne-Gacy did not have a three-headed love child, but if they did, it would be FORMERLY GHOSTS.
