After five years of writing and touring, North Bay’s oft-talked about Form One finally have a debut album. And yes, this is something to celebrate. They’ve shared the stage with many name acts (Peter Elkas, B.A. Johnston, the Postage Stamps) and it’s about time their jammy live performances got compressed and wrapped up in CD form. Although loosely labelled “rock,” Form One are undeniably jazzy and of course, dance-y. Much like Toronto’s Five Blank Pages, Form One indulge in whatever genre bending they deem interesting and make things work dynamically. This debut isn’t the sound of a band attempting to discover themselves, it’s the sound of a well-rounded group of amazing musicians who know what they’re doing and where they want to go. With such a poignant direction, they nail each song flawlessly. “Animals” is great live and is surprisingly just as exciting on record. “Cost/Benefit” toys with experimental bass elements and a cute vocal melody while staying true to their jazz background. And on “Precedence” we see the guitars let loose and shine. For a debut, this is most likely the best we’ll hear this year. - Exclaim.ca

The North Bay, Ontario based four-piece’s initial incarnation dates as far back to 2002, but the current line-up has been together for just the last three years. Some form of stability was brought to the band upon the return of drummer Michael Brushey from his studies at Humber College’s music program and the addition of Mark Ritter on guitar and Nathan Gray on bass.
“We managed to practice and record demos on holiday breaks and reading weeks,” claims Form One’s singer, guitarist and lyricist Perry Trinier.
Their music can be described as a jazz and funk influenced mixture of progressive and radio-friendly rock music. The band make a collaborative effort to make music that is devoid of musical clichés while also using familiar grooves and hooks.
Over the past three years Form One have been performing across Ontario and perfecting their distinctive sound while sharing the stage with the likes of The Junction, B.A. Johnston, Peter Elkas, The Mark Inside, and Wax Mannequin. In fact, a pivotal moment in the band’s career arrived backstage after a show with Wax Mannequin when Andy Magoffin and his House of Miracles studio was recommended as the ideal venue to lay down tracks for their debut album.
In January 2007, Form One embarked on the first of what would be several trips from North Bay to Andy’s studio in London to record. The band emerged from these sessions with their full-length debut album and the results are remarkable. From the ten carefully crafted tracks included on the album to the brilliant artwork supplied by Raymond Brand – Form One now have what they need to excel in what is a very challenging and competitive Canadian music scene.
Currently, Form One are looking forward to expanding their audience by taking their live show and copies of Form One on the road. Stay tuned, as the band is likely to play a venue near you soon!
