Bio
Mixing the attitude and spirit of indie rock with disarmingly addictive melodies, Boulder-based four-piece fortywatt is fast becoming a favorite on Boulder and Denver stages, at venues such as Tulagi, Trilogy Lounge, the Fox Theater, the Soiled Dove and Cricket on the Hill. In 2002, fortywatt was selected by Billboard magazine's DenverLocalMusicScene.com as its first ever "band of the month."
Onion AV Club called fortywatt "one of the best local bands to hit Denver and Boulder stages recently ... alternating catchy, driving rock with slower, introspective, emo-esque songs"; the Boulder Weekly praised the group for its mix of "a quirky yet sentimental indie edge with gritty guitar textures, producing a sometimes-soft, sometimes-crunchy, usually otherworldly pop sound."
Not surprisingly, the band cites such left-of-center acts as Sunny Day Real Estate, Built To Spill, Promise Ring, Weezer, Yo La Tengo, Piebald and R.E.M. as influences. In 2002, fortywatt was awarded first place in the Boulder, Colorado Rock Awards Songwriting contest for "Blues for Aquaman".
