"OKC Music Pick"

Forum and Aluma

"Formed in 2013, indie post-rock band Forum hit the Oklahoma City music scene with surprising fervor. Late 2014 welcomed its debut release, and the band is on the rise. Its music was even picked up by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The show - with opener Aluma - is 10 p.m. Friday at the 51st Street Speakeasy, 1114 NW 51st St." - Oklahoma Gazette

Bio

Forum began in early 2013 in Oklahoma City as a creative outlet between four friends. After years of playing in several different bands in the Oklahoma music scene, the band decided to form to explore a more organic musical experience through instrumental music. The idea behind Forum was to not be bound by the typical elements of musical structure, but rather to be free to define their own structure as flows and progressions. With broad musical backgrounds and tastes, Forum is not just a typical slow building post-rock band. They have expanded their own sound to an edgy blend of post-rock with an indie flair. Live shows take listeners on a journey of soundscapes with lush reverbs and delays cascading together with heavy hitting melodies.

The band began recording their debut self titled EP in late 2013 at I Void Studios with producer Crosby Bray. Before the album was released, several songs made it into local advertisements for the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2014 playoff season. The album was released in August of 2014 for all listeners to download for free via Noisetrade. For Forum, releasing the album for no cost was an easy and unanimous decision to make. The music industry is changing and Forum is adapting along with it.

Since the debut release, Forum has been actively promoting the record as well as gaining steam in the Oklahoma music community. They have also partnered with Music Box Licensing to help distribute their work into independent films, advertisements, and web shorts.

Music is about the experience and connections with both listeners and fellow musicians. Forum consistently cultivates that relationship by offering a blank canvas for listeners to paint their own life experiences and emotions, giving songs meaning far beyond what lyrics ever could.
