FWIW write up in Motif Magazine

For What It Is Worth

I first saw singer/guitarist Jenn Kitten perform on Thayer St for spare change. One could make the argument that this is the most primal setting for punk rock while others could dismiss it as a "faux American Idol" competition for quarters with the guy that plays the saxophone. I don't recall what she was playing, so we'll move on to For What It's Worth which has a '90s west coast (Epitaph type band) fast punk rock flavor. My favorite tune is "In a Room So Red" that has so many starts and stops around the manic beat that it reminds me of the musical equivalent to the high speed Euro Rail. For What It's Worth recently copped top honors as the "Best Live Act" and will be defending the title all summer throughout the Northeast. So put on your old pair of Chuck Taylors and build up your pogo stamina, because For What It's Worth are relentless. Check them out at The Living Room in Providence on June 27.

"EP Review"

For What It's Worth - "We're not dead…"
For What It's Worth - "We're not dead…" - Powerfully energetic vocals, well thought out lyrics, extremely catchy riffs & foot tapping beats. Every time I listen to this album I like it more & more. This record is full of emotion, energy and extremely catchy songs. Listening to it gets you pumped like you're at the show. I can only imagine the kind of energy "For What It's Worth" brings live. This disc is just amazing Punk Rock that every punk needs.

Bio

When a band like For What It's Worth lands on the scene, you're glad to know these bands still exist. With a DIY attitude, they work hard to pay their dues. When you go to a FWIW show, it's refreshing to see a band that just wants to have fun and get their music out to as many people as possible without caring about the latest fashion or how much eyeliner the guys are wearing. This three piece band plays fast, melodic punk rock in the vein of ALL/Decendents and Face To Face , The Gits, Tilt. Recent accomplishments iclude being voted Best Live Act in the 2007 Motif Music Awards and Jenn was nominated as Best Female Vocals that ysame year. The following year brought the band two more nominations in the same publication; Best Breakthru Act and Best Female Vocals. FWIW has been invited to play events for Percent Clothing, Providence Roller Derby, The Goddess Show (a celebration of women in music) as well as the Newbury Comics 30th Anniversary Instore party. FOr What It's Worth has also been featured on several compilation CDs including RI Recects Vol 1 on Reject Records and Barfights and Broken Hearts (PRR Music). 24 Song CD to be released this Fall, titled, This Vicious Circle.
