"Foxes That Fight Free Times Review"

I'm in a particularly forgiving mood for some reason, so I won't lambaste Foxes that Fight for describing themselves as "purveyors of the finest aural sex" on their MySpace site. Come on, dudes — leave the second-rate sex puns for third-rate frat-rock and cover bands. Besides, Foxes that Fight is neither, fleshing out their dark two-tone ska with some nifty progressive flashes, mixing in funk, classic rock, Latin jazz and, yes, even a little emo for some added kick. Think a more rocking Tom Ze or a decidedly less masturbatory Mars Volta and you're halfway there. The Foxes drop a new long-player tonight as a special treat for you Valentine's Day lovebirds. Forget the year of the rat; this could be the year of the fox. Zelazowa and The Bourbon Brothers open. P. Wall - Free Times

"Earlier Free Times Review"

Foxes that Fight — There's a line from the Beastie Boys' "B-Boy Bouillabaisse" that's a good starting point if you need an introduction to the five-piece Columbia band Foxes that Fight: "One half science / and the other half soul." The science is the regimented backbone of ska; but on that backbone, Foxes that Fight hang a lot of other meaty influences. "We're trying to blend our rock tendencies with our deep love for jazz, our excitement for Latin music and the basic instinct of funk," says singer/tromboner Dean Zongrone. Now, don't get all itchy and start thinking "experimental noise" when you hear that amalgam. Foxes that Fight are the uncommon band that can make the overflow of influences worth wrapping your ears around. - Free Times

Bio

Foxes That Fight, an experimental rock band, formed in May 2006, and is based in Columbia, SC. We had all been playing music in various bands for a few years, but hadn't really found a group that just felt right. It seems like we've finally done that. Now, with more experience as musicians and as band mates, we've really been able to begin to push our boundaries a little bit more. The music is a blend of all the genres we hold dear, funk, latin, rock, jazz, psychedelic, dance, ska, and of course some 70's prog. Our sound is definitely evolving, so please: come out, lend us your ears, and enjoy our next show.

As for the actual people that make up Foxes That Fight, this is an excerpt from our year end review:
Dean's kickin' ass at the new job that's not so new anymore...getting his (expletive) straight. Matt's doing college like it was his bitch...and I guess it is in a way. David seems happily content which is one of the things I've always liked about him, and Andrew is the free spirit that he's always been...hell yea...and I'm[Joey] feeling pretty good too. We started bringing in this dude, Mork, to play percussion, and he's a pretty cool guy. We've had good times, bad times, confusing times, BIG times, and little times. We started with a strong feeling like we had finally found something we could believe in, and over 2007, through thick and thin, adventure after adventure, we realized we were right. So now it's time to get to work. We defined our sound, set ourselves into a consistent niche, and now we're gonna take it somewhere. 2008 brings us the year of the fox.
