Bio

Franc Cinelli will be releasing a brand new LP in Spring 2015.

Having recently completed an extensive European and North American tour including a sold out show at the Living Room in New York City, a televised performance at the Blue Note in Milan & two shows at the Royal Albert Hall. He's gathered recent support from BBC Radio 2 (Dermot O'Leary) and WFUV in New York amongst others. Music Week magazine calls him "a breathe of fresh air".

He is currently touring throughout 2014 presenting the two recent SongCircle Records releases; the five track Alcatraz EP and the long player I Have Not Yet Begun to Fight. The EP takes on five songs inspired by Alcatraz and some of its infamous guests. Defiant, prison outlaw ballads influenced by songwriters Ry Cooder and Mississippi John Hurt wave the flag in this collection about faith, repentance and the indelible human spirit.

’I Have Not Yet Begun to Fight’ signals the arrival of a very singular musical talent in singer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter FRANC CINELLI. On this warm, strong album, Franc’s insightful, reflective songs are delivered in a deep, gravelly, ‘well-travelled’ vocal style and his guitar gently finger picked in sympathetic support. He plays all the instruments on the new album apart from those used in the horn sections (Phil Baer sax, Rob Bell trumpet), the double bass on ’Passera’’, ’Fat Charlie Sings The Blues’ and ’Abracadabra’ (Jim Dytham) and vocals on ’Shot Of Life’ and ’Julius Plays His Winning Ace’ (Claire Inglis).

Starting with the alt/country Shot of Life and closing with the anthemic Julius Plays His Winning Ace, it flows from the waltz/blues of Fat Charlie, to the romantic runaway ballad of Bonnie & Clyde in Fall into Heaven. A first for Franc’s music, Passera’, is a travel song sung in his native Italian. The record ventures into new arrangement territories with horn sections & spaghetti western style choruses blending together with traditional finger style picking and Franc’s trademark Rhythm and Blues sound.

Franc Cinelli was born in Italy and raised in London. His introduction to music came from his mother’s record collection : ”Springsteen, The Police, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd & Bob Marley were the big hitters” he comments.

He started playing the violin when he was about 10 and quit that in favor of the guitar a few years later. Writing his own songs came easier than learning to play “properly” so that’s what he did and pretty much stuck to that mantra up until the making of this new record (see his ’track by track’ comments further below).

The bands he has played in have always been his own. Prior to playing under his own name, he used the moniker Goodtimes Goodtimes under which he released his first record ’Glue’ and following that the eponymous ’goodtimes goodtimes’ record produced by Danton Supple (Coldplay, Morrissey).

Like all good troubadours, he spent a lot of time touring by himself, not just the length and breadth of the UK (quite literally from Hastings to Stornoway) but throughout the East Coast of the USA, Texas & Tennessee, and in his native Italy. He regards the road as the school of songwriting, and, he adds ”its rather good fun”
