"Cd Review -WomanRock NYC"

" There's an element to her music that shows she's a leader and her listeners should follow." - WomanRock.com - Carrie Crespo

"Francesca Lee orders at Genghis Cohen"

Fans of Bay Area fave Francesca Lee will have an opportunity to hear the singer/songwriter's latest songs as she makes a rare southern California appearance at the venerable Genghis Cohen(on Fairfax, just North of Melrose) on Nov. 30th. - MUSIC CONNECTION MAGAZINE

"Sf Deli Feature"

When I first searched for Francesca Lee on MySpace, it brought up a big breasted woman in a bikini whose tag line was "party yr pants off!" and I was pretty sure I had the wrong page (but check it out, it's hilarious!) Luckily, I found our real Francesca Lee, and she's much more appealing. For the softer side of life, this new track is a definite bubble bath-er. She's got a lovely mellow style with endearing lyrics and the occasional surprise harmony or guitar fun. Elements of jazz creep in occasionally as well. If you dig it, she's got a show at the Hotel Utah on the 30th, so check it out. - Sf Deli Magazine

"Cd Review - Cd Baby"

"This album is wonderful! I have spent many years trying to find something in female rock that is good, and not just a retread of something else, I found it with Lee’s powerful and unique voice and song writing ability. Each song is a trip into a new wonderful world." - Reviewer: Dominic Zacchino/CdBaby

"Live Performance Review"

"What struck me about her performance is how calm and self-possessed she seemed for someone so young. Her guitar playing was very jazzy, with a little taste of bossa-nova. Her style could be called pop-driven folk, but there was also an undercurrent of urban sound that will appeal to a contemporary audience.

Francesca’s voice was refreshing. She has a very pure tone, but also has a sultry side and an impressive vocal range. At times she delivered her lyrics almost breathlessly, but at other times she displayed an amazing amount of vocal control. Her vibrato is very tight, sounding at times almost like an Indian Raga vocalist.

Her lyrics fit into the poetic singer/songwriter category, but she manages to avoid the cliché and instead offers a peek into her dreams. Her lyrics are not transparent; however, as you listen more closely, you are drawn into her inner world."

"Live Performance Review"

"I saw her perform in Sf, and picked up this cd right after the show. she is amazing even with just an acoustic guitar, catch her live when you can! the album is fantastic." - SF Reviews

"Cd Review - Musical Discoveries"

" This talented songstress delivers the goods with her sensual lyrics and rocky musical interpretation. Francesca Lee brings home a welcome sounds from this talented singer-songwriter. She has a message that she easily delivers with her striking songs and vocal diversity. Francesca delivers a dynamic performance throughout."- musicaldiscoveries.com - Musical Discoveries

"Cd Review - Collected Sounds"

"The music is more than girl and guitar. Lee is a talented and interesting songwriter. The songs are as natural sounding, as is her voice." - Collected Sounds - Amy Lotsberg

"Cd Review - F5 Magazine"

"Francesca Lee follows a path paved in party by Ani Difranco and Ricky Lee Jones but one that hasn't become beaten down, one that seems capable of welcoming new travelers such as Lee, singer/songwriters who have something to say and sound terrific saying it." - F5 Magazine - Jed Beaudoin

"Redefine Magazine, Seattle"

"If you are in need of nostalgia and feeling a bit sentimental, then you might want to listen to Lee. Her voice is soft and sultry; she commands the attention of her audience. Almost instantly you'll find yourself singing along to her songs."
- Leah Jorgensen, Redefine Magazine

Bio

FRANCESCA LEE
"Instrospective Dream Pop"!

“It’s all those tiny pieces of emotions we’ve all felt,” Francesca Lee says of her debut release The Pieces Left. “I didn’t obsess over the types of songs I should write or what kind of artist I should be, instead I allowed my intuition to guide me to the music, it comes from a place so far beyond my consciousness, it really is a magical thing.”

Ever so often and artist exceeds expectations and manages to balance both artistic vision and unprocessed talent to make one of those albums you know is ripe for an extraordinary journey. Like a pearl on a string, The Pieces left delivers these goods and lives up to the San Francisco buzz that’s been stirring up about the 28–year old singer-songwriter. Alongside artists like Dido, Fiona Apple, and Beth Orton, Lee merges a precise combination sensuality and youthful innocence in her music. The ten songs on the album offer an intimate, spirited showcase for her talents as both an uncommonly introspective songwriter and effortlessly expressive vocalist.

Recorded in the artist’s hometown of San Francisco with noted producer and multi instrumentalist Michael Winger (Regina Spektor, Kronos Quartet, The Shins), The Pieces left features Jake Wood on drums, and guitarist Jeff Johnson, Lee’s sole artistic collaborator who also co-wrote Lee’s song Maybe Today.

A-list musicianship and production quality notwithstanding, it’s Lee’s lyrically insightful compositions and intrinsic performances that make The Pieces Left such a treasure. Such tunes as “Paper Hearts,” “Fly,” “Maybe Today” and “Losing You” magnify a level of honesty and artistic clarity that is rare in so many pop artists.

“We just started with simple piano, acoustic guitar, lyrical leads, and built them up with texture and sounds that nurtured the story. I write a lot of songs that are emotionally driven and constantly travel in and out of my sub-conscience thoughts. I felt that keeping the production values lush and dreamy would represent those emotions and thoughts. In the end we created a very sophisticated sounding record.”

With The Pieces Left establishing her as one of San Francisco’s most exciting newfound musical forces, Francesca Lee is eager to share her songs with her rapidly expanding grassroots fan base.

“Listening to this record gives me such a sense of accomplishment,” she says, adding, “it has taken me years of hard work and paid dues to create an album like this, I’ve never felt more confident and comfortable on stage than when I’m playing the songs on The Pieces Left. The music possesses me, I’m in the moment and it’s beautiful.”
