Los Rakas
New music: ‘Camaleón’ by Los Rakas feat. Frank Nino
By Gina Vergel - 04 August, 2013

We knew Panama-by-way-of-Oakland, Calif., duo, Los Rakas, would be well received in Colombia and Chile, where they ended up selling out shows in Bogota and Santiago.

The experience inspired them to immediately release a hot new track with ties to Colombia, Canada, Guatemala, and their native Panama.

Camaleón, an upbeat hip hop/reggae number, is produced by Myztiko, a Montreal, Canada,-based Guatemalteco, who has worked with reggaeton artists, such as Daddy Yankee, Tony Dize, and Cruzito.

The new track was inspired by a song written and performed by fellow countryman and salsa legend, Ruben Blades.

Blades’ song, ‘Camaleón,’ (off the 1991 album, Caminando,) serves as both inspiration and warning:

Que es lo que pasa camaleón, calma la envidia que me tienes.
Aunque tu cambies de color y yo siempre se por donde vienes.
(What’s up chameleon? Calm down your envy
Although you change your colors, I always know where you’re coming from)

So begins the version by Los Rakas, which also features Colombian artist/producer, Frank Nino, who has an interesting connection to Panama. - Sounds & Colors

Mocy Ft. Souldia, Saye & Frank Nino – Vérité Hostile [Video]

Posted by Emilio on Thursday, March 14, 2013 · Leave a Comment

- Elementality

Bio

I was born in Bogota, Colombia and was brought up in the midst of the on going civil war within social political movements, para-military militia and government death squads of the Escobar era. My family was persecuted and some even assassinated for presumed affiliation and involvement within the educational syndicates in Colombia. In 1989, I was rescued by Amnesty International and was granted political asylum in Canada. It was only then, through the rhythms and chants for protest in tribute to the situation in Colombia that my profound interest for music began.

Today, I'm one of the pioneers in what is said to be the first rehabilitation program for social reinsertion through music ever built within a third world federal penitentiary.

In short words, I took part in the creation and development of the first recording studio and unprecedented outlet for musical expression within Panama's notorious Federal prison, El Renacer. Assisting a group of inmates during their imprisonment. I jointly produced, performed and filmed several musical projects within the prison walls.
