Frank Ryan moved to Toronto from Dublin two years to the week of this performance. Judging from his set, he isn’t doing too bad for himself. I caught his set at the Supermarket in Toronto’s notorious Kensington Market Wednesday night. Sweating up a storm and joking that he wasn’t used to the heat, Ryan pumped out some delicious and soulful tunes that had smiles on faces and hips swaying back and forth. One that stuck out to me was titled ‘Joelle’. With lyrics like “Joelle I’ll see you in hell”, it was quite beautiful. Lost somewhere between the rhythm and the rhyme is where youll find Frank Ryan. A singer, songwriter, born & raised in Dublin, Ireland, he has been playing and singing since age 11.
Frank is a highly skilled and creative instrumental musician but his true gift lies in his hauntingly powerful and melodic vocals. With talents far beyond his years, Frank has an ability to draw his crowds attention with a catchy brand of soulful rock & high energy musicianship, that is inspired by musical influences ranging from The Beatles to John Mayer.
After 2 years of working as a session musician in London, England, he now resides in Toronto. Now just over 2 years in Canada, Frank has played at Ottawas Juno Fest, opened for Big Wreck, The Spin Doctors & De La Soul, as well as becoming a regular fixture among the Toronto live music scene.
In April of 2013, Frank began work on his debut album in New York with legendary producer/musician Steve Jordan, due for release in 2014..
