"The Pragmatist- Three Songs for the Last Dance in Your Once-Magnificent Ballroom"

In the dreary cold, during the Snowmageddon of 2010, Frau Eva stopped by City Paper's desolate parking lot to play "Howling." The tasteful, delicate waltz, played amid frosty winds, is a fitting end to your tenure. Enjoy it here, and perhaps again tonight when the band plays at Galaxy Hut in Arlington. - Washington City Paper

"Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Festival: What I Learned"

D.C.'s Frau Eva also had a prog side that suggested the more adventurous songs Fairport Convention wrote in the late '60s, but the sound was somehow cuddly, too. The band has grown a lot since it played on City Paper's roof during a snowstorm a year and a half ago. - NBC Washington

"Three Stars: Frau Eva"

There's something very thoughtful and intentional about Frau Eva. The trio of Vanessa Degrassi, David Klinger and Ben Usie (singers and multi-instrumentalists, all) have clearly thought through every note, every lively "la da da," and every heartbreaking melody. No drumbeat seems misplaced. It's as if they took the bohemian spirit of Devendra Banhart, the pathos of Ben Gibbard and the meticulous arrangement of Grizzly Bear and turned these elements into their own soft-spoken anthems, referencing everything from Hermann Hesse to The Smiths. The songs on the their EP, Rip Out The Threads, can effectively soundtrack intimate moments alone. - DCist. com

Bio

There are times when life brings you to new lands. And other times when you play the cartographer. You sit down at your desk and lock yourself away, scrolling out new paths. And as you're inventing your world, you don't eat for weeks; time passes and you don't seem to notice; the outside world becomes less real, and gradually, the only world you really believe in becomes the one that flows from your imagination. Such was the case for Frau Eva. Chance and circumstance brought us together, and then one day we stood up from the passenger seat, rolled down the window, and with hands held tight, we jumped into the outside world. We all got together with the same idea, and feeling the need to dedicate all of our hearts to something, borrowed a character from Demian, an old Herman Hesse novel, and started a rock and roll band that expressed the excitement, beauty, sadness, and anger that we found in ourselves. In all, our music is hard to categorize - people have called it impressionism, jazz, or indie rock, our songs are just being themselves and trying to figure out where they fit in in the world. We invite you to listen to our songs.

Happy journey.
