"Down and Dirty"

It's time for school to start again, and that means it's also time for the return of the Dirty Carny Sideshow. At this point I shouldn't have to explain the concept to you or why you should check it out. Where else can you check out Tulsa's latest rising bands and get a quick overview of the local music scene with so little effort on your part?

The latest installment of the Sideshow is this weekend, August 17-20 at The Otherside, offers nearly 50 bands showcased over three nights, all for one low price. All you've gotta do is show up, hang out and decide who your latest favorite band is.

Friday night's show starts at 6pm with Here Is There and new bands take the stage every 30 minutes before wrapping up with a 12:30am performance by The Colour Violet. Highlights from the evening should include Fantastic International, My Solstice, Shutdown Sequence Go!, Bill Murray's Prostate and Jarrod Mott and The Time Travelers.

Saturday's show kicks off at 4pm with Along Came A Spider and features a line-up that's heavy on metal and hardcore bands, including Separation From All, Sixes, Sworn Against, My Dead X, Starving Europa and Two Minutes Hate. **And don't miss Fraysion the Minotaur at 11pm, who get bonus points and deserve a listen if only because they have the most bodacious metal moniker of the entire weekend.**

Finally, the Carnival wraps around 10pm on Sunday evening with Valmont closing up shop, but not before Emberson, VP Mafia, Sounds of War, Southern Lush and Hollywood Harlot do their best to steal the show.

Here are the vital statistics: 50/3/1/10. That's 50 bands over three nights in one club for only $10. You can check out all the details, including a complete band listing and scheduled set times, at www.myspace.com/dirtycarnysideshow.

"Kings Fest 2007"

Although many of us in Tulsa, myself included, didn't have the privilege of knowing Johnny Earl Trussell, he was truly one of the good guys on the local music scene. Supportive of all types and styles of original music, Trussell not only attended shows and supported local bands, but also hosted a number of shows on his own property.

Trussell died more than two years ago, in September of 2005, but his memory lives on in the spirits of the lives he touched. And so his friends in the local music business decided to come together to pay tribute to him. They call it "the first Kingfest show", as a number of rock and metal bands have come together in honor and as a fitting memoriam for Trussell.

The show will be held at this Saturday, December 22, at King of Clubs in Claremore, and will certainly be worth the half hour drive for local hard rock fans. The lineup includes Fraysion the Minotaur, True White Brother, Here is There, Cuddles, after ember, Bill Murray's Prostate, Starving Europa, Rusted Skin, and Grey Man's Cause.

Doors open at 4pm with and $8 cover. All of the bands are donating their time, with all proceeds from the show given over to research for bipolar disorders, a condition that effected Trussell. If you get your shopping done early and are ready to release your tension from the holiday traffic, make the drive to pay tribute to a friend of the scene and get your local rock fix.

Bio

We've been around since the summer of 2006, but broke up for awhile until the beginning part of 2007. We've had some major line-up changes, but the story of Fraysion still lives on. Oh yeah, and our music revolves around a mythical creature we created named Fraysion. Here's a recap: "Fraysion is the last surviving minotaur, servant of the God Zeus, who is the Protector of Earth and the Ruler of Olympia. This is his story... " You can hear more of the story on our website, MySpace, or from one of us in person. For more songs and video, go here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fraysion
