I am currently working hard to record my first independent CD of original acoustic songs. My music style is somewhere between bluegrass, country, and folk.

I live in Burlington, NC. I graduated from Cummings High School in Burlington, NC, and played violin in the school orchestra. I graduated from Elon College (now called Elon University) and majored in Computer Science.

I'm married to my wonderful and beautiful wife Kim, have a beautiful daughter, two big strappin' step-sons, and a 19 month old baby boy!

Lyrics

Jenny

Written By: Fred W. Black

She cries to herself as she’s dressing
Lipstick and rouge for impressing
Men whose lives are callused and cold
Dark empty hearts where no love takes hold

It’s a long night ahead when you’re making
Lure for satin’s soul taking
She hates that first step through the door
Burned by the flame but drawn back for more

[Chorus]
Jenny dances for strangers
A few dollars and a drink and she’ll do you favors
A hundred men will pay to watch her move
On the seedy side of town, in some smoky, dark room
Their lusty stares somehow soothe her wounds

She wants for money, she wants for love
Emptiness nothing yet has touched
Long nights, hard life, no defenses
Never once daddy’s little princess

She could have been sitting on his knee
Rocky-a-bye baby, just turned three
He left never holding her close
Without his love her little broken heart froze

[Chorus]
Jenny dances for strangers
A few dollars and a drink and she’ll do you favors
A hundred men will pay to watch her move
On the seedy side of town, in some smoky, dark room
Their lusty stares somehow soothe her wounds

180 Proof

Written By: Fred W. Black

It’s been a long hard day
So you just stop off to see your friends
To have a few drinks and a laugh or two
And see if the waitress catches your eye again

Your wife’s waiting for you
Wondering why you don’t come home
She hates the waiting more than the lying
Knowing what you’re doing and feeling so alone

[Chorus]
It’s just a little glass
But it helps make the lying last
So you put out the pain with 180 proof
You know she knows you’re lying
And you don’t care she’s crying
With 180 proof, 180 degrees from the truth

Your children are in bed
And your wife has cried herself to sleep
She dreams of your love that she’s missed for years
And wishes she could stop you and your heart she could keep

She hears your footsteps fall
She reaches in the drawer by the bed
She smells perfume and the whiskey on your breath
The cold steel in her hand shatters her silence with lead

[Chorus]
It’s just a little glass
But it helps make the lying last
So you put out the pain with 180 proof
You know she knows you’re lying
And you don’t care she’s crying
With 180 proof, 180 degrees from the truth

The sheriff found you both there
Your children were taken away
One stone, two birds, one shot, two broken hearts
Now the pain and the heartache are handed down to stay

[Chorus]
It’s just a little glass
But it helps make the lying last
So you put out the pain with 180 proof
You know she knows you’re lying
And you don’t care she’s crying
With 180 proof, 180 degrees from the truth

Heaven's Window

Written By: Fred W. Black

There’s a light,
Shining through the window,
And it shines when I read,
From the word of God.
A beautiful light,
Shining through the window,
And it shines from the place,
Where the saints have trod.

One day I’ll look,
Through that open window,
One day I’ll see,
What’s on the other side.
And I’ll take a walk,
Up through the valley,
Of peace and love,
Where the soul survives.

[Chorus]
I’ll walk beside,
The saints and the angels,
I’ll say a prayer,
For those left behind.
In his beautiful light,
There’s no pain or sorrow,
When you open that window,
And let it shine.

[Verse 3]
If I go,
To the other side,
And leave you here stranded,
Alone just you.
I’ll look back through,
Through that open window,
And I’ll shine my light,
My heavenly light on you.

[Repeat Chorus]

[Repeat Chorus]

A Broken Hearted Shame

Written By: Fred Black

[Verse 1]
She had a good heart
He had good intentions
Time faded their passion away
After it’s over
Sometimes you realize
You just let your whole world slip away

[Chorus]
A little more gray hair
A little more wisdom
Paid for with time and pain
It’s not that it hurts more
You know what costs are
And it’s just a broken hearted shame
That you didn’t know then
How it’d hurt in the end
Now only the scars remain
It’s still a broken hearted shame
Just a broken hearted shame

[Verse 2]
You were sure your love
And the seeds you were sowing
Would ripen like grapes on the vine
You wandered and squandered
And turned around to find
That your heart’s what you left behind

[Chorus]
A little more gray hair
A little more wisdom
Paid for with time and pain
It’s not that it hurts more
You know what costs are
And it’s just a broken hearted shame
That you didn’t know then
How it’d hurt in the end
Now only the scars remain
It’s still a broken hearted shame
Just a broken hearted shame

Bottle Blonde

Written By: Fred Black

I’ve been working all week, I didn’t really want to
I was dreaming of Saturday night
I’ve got a date with my favorite girl
She knows how to treat me right

She has eyes as green as the jealously
She causes in other girls
Her hair is long and flows all around me
Curl after curl after curl

[Chorus]
We’re getting in my pickup truck
With my old guitar
And driving down a long dirt road and park out by a pond
There ain’t gonna be no fishing
Just lots and lots of kissing
Saturday night under the stars, just me and my bottle blonde

Now we ain’t going to no fancy restaurant
Seated by a maitradee
Or sit in a crowd to watch a movie
We’re going where she can kiss on me

She’s got more curves than mountain road
And legs that never stop
And I plan to climb from way down here
All the way to the top

[Chorus]
We’re getting in my pickup truck
With my old guitar
And driving down a long dirt road and park out by a pond
There ain’t gonna be no fishing
Just lots and lots of kissing
Saturday night under the stars, just me and my bottle blonde
