"Review of Soul Of Freddie Hughes"

The Soul of Freddie Hughes represents his return to the studio. The good news is that he still has that same remarkable, elastic instrument from 30 years ago: a clear, passionate voice which loses none of its power in the high registers. Think of a cross between O.V. Wright and Curtis Mayfield. On ballads like "Save Our Love," he pours his heart into the lyrics and takes the vocals into falsetto like a great gospel singer. On the upbeat "Love Land," he explores the bottom registers of his range.

Bio

Freddie Hughes was born at Berkeley’s Herrick Hospital. One of five Children, two girls and three boys, he is the second son born to his parents Fred W. Hughes Sr. And Lola Mae Anderson. At the age of five his remarkably high tenor voice was so impressively noticeable, the members of his congregation would throw money in appreciation. His glorious voice from God and his strong religious background gave way to his growth and grooming which has lead to the performer you see today.

His talent and love for music has glided him through many years of performance with personalities such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Etta James, Ike & Tina Turner and the Bobby Murray Band( band leader & guitarist for Etta James). Freddie has performed in venues, from the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area to New York as well as London, France, Switzerland and Holland.

Freddie’s love for music and his sensitivity afforded him many opportunities to express his feelings in a song.
