"FRED MCKINNEY--HIGH WATER"

"priceless conventional wisdom" "some of the best songwriting I've heard this year"
--Cyrus Rhodes, INDIE MUSIC DIGEST

From start to finish "High Water" is an amazing musical collection from Fred McKinney. The music is powerful, upbeat, & very honest & straightforward. McKinney makes no attempt to sugar coat the truth anywhere on this CD. Instead, he tells each tale with a very honest assessment of life & some of its subtle imperfections...songwriting--world class...vocal presence of McKinney is something cut from the cloth of Americana legend... - INDIE MUSIC DIGEST

"MCKINNEY AT MARVIN MEMORIAL LIBRARY"

PURE SIMPLE JOY is a collection of seven of McKinney's favorite compositions and representative of his memorable sound and style. The clean acoustic rhythms lend themselves readily to the heartfelt, yet simple, lyrics, sure to catch in the listener's ear. Hinting at his thoughts on life, love and longing, McKinney's songs reflect quiet hope right alongside the tragedy of a broken dream. - SHELBY (OH) DAILY GLOBE

Bio

"All I want from this life is time to write a song,
And somewhere I can sing it, some place where I belong."
--from My Song Fred McKinney 2008

Singer/songwriter Fred McKinney will charm you with songs of love and loss, make you cry, or maybe laugh out loud. He's been singing and playing guitar for over 40 years, but only writing songs since the summer of 2005. The songwriting began as a way to help him deal with the loss of his wife, and led to his performing in public. Fred has written fiction for most of his life but believes he's more suited to writing songs. "Songs seem easier to write," he says, "because you can write one in a day or two, but it's just an illusion that songs are easier to write."

Living in the Olivesburg, Ohio (near Ashland) area, he has performed in coffee houses and libraries, at private parties, and for various groups and organizations. Additionally he did a set at the Rootstock 2009 Concert at Cain Park in Cleveland and appeared on the radio program Just Plain Folk on 91.3 The Summit from Akron.
