Biography

Original. Authentic. Honest. These are just some of the words used to describe Fred Shafer's music. Paired with his insatiable work ethic and blue-collar attitude, Fred has gained a reputation as not only an passionate showman, but also a dedicated road warrior. Spending most of his time on tour, Fred has developed a large and fiercely loyal fan base. Collaborating with producers Brian Sperber(Moby, Hinder, 3 Doors Down) and Mike Mushok(guitarist from the band Staind) on his last EP, Fred is poised to release his Jamey Perrenot(LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift) produced, "Resistor" in 2010.

At age 27, Fred Shafer is an old soul. Born in Las Vegas, raised throughout the Southwest and Texas, Fred ultimately made roots in the Mid-West. His fatherless, nomadic childhood provides a template for his lyrically driven melodies and emotionally accessible songs. With a voice that harkens to the days of Joe Cocker, Al Green, and Sam Cooke, Fred delivers these heartfelt songs with unparalleled sincerity. In a time of cookie cutter performers and gimmick bands, Fred relies on the only proven recipe for success: talent combined with good old-fashioned hard work.

In 2008, Fred collaborated with producers Brian Sperber(Moby, Hinder, 3 Doors Down) and Mike Mushok(guitarist from the band Staind) to record, "The Fred Shafer EP". The acclaimed EP became the basis for Fred's NEW record, "Resistor"(2010). Standout tracks like "Letting You Go", "Why Your're Gone" and "Into the Ground" only further showcase Shafer's uncanny ability to move between rock anthem, classic ballads and catchy pop...all the while, continuing to sound soulful, modern & fresh. Shafer composed all of the songs that appear on "Resistor", some co-written with friends and other Artists, some with Grammy Nominated Writers. Producer Jamey Perrenot(LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift, Paul Brant), Grammy Award Winning Mixer Rob Burrell(Michael W. Smith) and All-Star backing band help Shafer deliver his best work yet!

With over 17,000 records sold and his music heard in movies like Miramax's, "The Station Agent" and television programs like "The Shield" and "Ultimate Fighting Championship", Fred has also been featured in Vanity Fair's 2003 Music Edition, Billboard Magazine, and Hit Parader, as well as had a music video in rotation on RAGE TV. In addition, several of Fred's songs have been added to the play lists of over 50 commercial and college radio stations: "It's All On Me" reached 1 on two of these stations. These songs, together with his emotional and charismatic performances, have afforded Fred the opportunity to share the stage with major acts such as Chuck Berry, Kid Rock, Journey, Goo Goo Dolls, Staind, Collective Soul, Gov't Mule, Saliva, D12 and many more, all independently. Recently, Fred has these skills to writing songs for Kelly Clarkson, Autumn McEntire, Canadian Idol and Pop Stars.

Lyrics

Breakaway

Written By: Fred Shafer

My jagged words have shattered hearts, found their way thru the frozen dark
I never meant to hurt you, my love
I’m not proud to say I’ve passed the poor on the street
As walked away the only shame was in me
I was blind before but I’m tryin’ to see

So I’ll breakaway
From all that I’ve done and what I’ve become
This unfortunate son
And no, don’t be afraid
This is not the end
This is where we begin

The story of me is behind that door
Kicked against the wall and pushed down on the floor
Barely five years old and fightin’ a war
But now I’m strong enough to raise my voice
Bleed the past away, let it die in the noise
Twenty-five years old and still fightin a war

So I’ll breakaway
From all that I’ve done and what I’ve become
This unfortunate son
And no, don’t be afraid
This is not the end
This is where we begin

Your brothers at the door
Can you hear him?
Tomorrows at your door
Can you feel it?

So I’ll breakaway
From all that I’ve done and what I’ve become
This unfortunate son
And no, don’t be afraid
This is not the end
This is where we begin

Going Blind

Written By: Shafer/Bodrug

Cause tonight won’t be right if you’re cold
Is it the last time I’ll see you?

I guess I’m feeling down, I wish that I was up
And now I know the meaning
Cause you couldn’t see what believed in
The ceilings falling down and I can’t hold it up
Should I be kneeling cause something is wrong my faith is bleeding

On our way down

Cause tonight won’t be right if you’re cold
It’s too tight when we fight you’re too bold
Said goodbye will I die all alone
Is it the last time I’ll see you
Cause loves going blind

My best is coming down, my worst is giving up.
Dark clouds above me
The sun is gone my life’s depleading
And I’m left feeling bound, by what we could have been
The dogs are feeding on selfish needs that need completing

On our way down, this terrible sound
No grace to be found, it’s happening

Cause tonight won’t be right if you’re cold
It’s too tight when we fight you’re too bold
Said goodbye will I die all alone
Is it the last time I’ll see you
Cause loves going blind

Loves going blind
Loves going blind
Loves going blind

This terrible sound is happening

Cause tonight won’t be right if you’re cold
It’s too tight when we fight you’re too bold
Said goodbye will I die all alone
Is it the last time I’ll see you
Cause loves going blind

Wish You Were Here

Written By: Shafer/Bodrug

She’s waiting by the phone
Complaining that I’m never home
Blaming but I’m all alone and breaking

I wish you were here
And then I could say
How the world stopped turning the landslide took me away
I wanted to stay
But the fires burning, desire’s turning to pain
I wish you were here

Giving, but it took you instead
I’m living, but I feel dead
Forgive me, cause I’m all alone and breaking

I am breaking down
I’ve been breaking down

I wish you were here
And then I could say
How the world stopped turning the landslide took me away
I wanted to stay
But the fires burning, desire’s turning to pain
I wish you were here

You’re face is everywhere
But the road won’t take me there
I just want you to know…

I am breaking down
I’ve been breaking down

I wish you were here
And then I could say
How the world stopped turning the landslide took me away
I wanted to stay
But the fires burning, desire’s turning to pain
I wish you were here
