Iowa, dear people isn’t just all cornfield and crystal meth (yes, it’s 2013 and I’m making that joke) dear readers, there’s hip-hop in them parts of the country as well.
Speaking of which, where exactly do the other states rank in the Midwest when it comes to hip-hop? In reality, it’d be more city based amongst anything really.
But that’s another conversation that will incite a flame war of totally unepic proportions. Or result in a rap war fueled by World Star Hip-Hop and suburban tryhards. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Spitting under the beat of the universal acclaimed Eric B & Rakim’s “Paid in Full” beat (that too many rappers have fucked up, mainly because, me personally they rapped faster than the beat itself or used a degraded sample) college scene rappers iLL Trip, C.Wat, Jay Cuzin and Joe Reason lay down bars and spit them almost as quick as you can blink (especially Jay Cuzin). Don’t past this one up for a simply another cypher video about bragging rights (there is that element, I mean, Hip-Hop wouldn’t be the same without it) there’s more that meets the eye and ear, when it comes to this quartet. - zee outskirtnoise

What got you into rap?
Basically it was by accident. I was just playing around, wrote something, and rapped it to my friend. He thought it was good so I shared it with a few other friends. They said I should record it, so I did and really just kept going from there.
What do you rap about?
Whatever I’ve seen, heard, experienced. Basically the experiences I have in life whether it be something I’m frustrated about or something I like, I just write about it.
How would you describe your rapping style?
At this point I sound annoyed and irritated. You get that feel when hearing the tone. My lyrics are meant to cut deep and hit you. I just have a serious sound that lets you know I want to get a point across.

Freedom Music was born in the dorm rooms of Iowa State University. Each member building a lifetime bond and friendship through their love of not just Hip-Hop but Music. Freedom Music diversity is unmatched in today's Hip-Hop game. iLL Trip from Detroit MI, Jay Cuzzin from Kansas City MO, C.Wat from Bessemer Alabama, and Joe Reasons from Des Moines IA has been a recipe for an amazing musical collaboration.
All being college graduates their inspirations come from artist with complex and progressive styles. Joe Reasons complex story telling and emotional driven choruses is nothing short of a homage to Eminem. C.Wat's southern twang will bring you back to the days of UGK, Geto Boys, and Goodie Mob that we all love so much. iLL Trip pulls from an array of artist such as Slum Village, Kanye West, Rakim, and Ice Cube to develop a style most haven't heard. Last but not least is Jay Cuzzin with his various flows and monstrous word play he's definitely a star in the making.
The group is just getting their feet wet but already have much to prove. They are all creating solo projects with Jay Cuzzin coming late October and Joe Reasons in early November. All are doing open mics and even getting some exposure through WRPE.net internet radio and various blogs. Freedom Music is just that, music that expresses the freedom it brings not only to the writer but the listener as well. #FreedomMusic
