"Jam Featured in TIME Magazine's "Optimist" Issue with Ava Duvernay"

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay joined TIME as the guest editor of its 2019 Optimists issue. This year, for our second annual Optimists issue, we invited TIME’s readers and DuVernay’s followers to participate, soliciting video submissions that express individual visions of optimism. “Prioritizing hope whenever possible is a brave and bold thing to do,” DuVernay writes in her editor’s letter which begins this issue. After receiving hundreds of expressions of hope, all bold and brave in their own ways, these are the visions of joy TIME and DuVernay chose to share back with you. - TIME MAGAZINE

Bio

From the tender age of 7, music has consistently played a major role in the upbringing of one of today’s most anticipated Atlanta artists, Jam. Raised as a military brat whose origins stem from numerous cities in Georgia, Jam was recognized early on for his musical talents and eagerness to take the stage. Never shying away from the opportunity to perform, onlookers instantly became drawn to the passion and presence of this outspoken young talent. With a distinctive style to compliment his signature flow, Jam is sure to be the next star in the making.
Intrigued with the art form of hip-hop since a child, Jam could be found in his room nodding his head and studying the flows, rhyme schemes, and patterns of some of hip-hop's greatest artists. Discovering his own flow in the process, Jam began to develop and perfect his craft. From producing to songwriting, music began to serve as a platform for Jam to share his story with the world. With a few singles even making their way onto the local airwaves, Jam began to develop his brand and further solidify his position as an artist on the rise.

In order to reach a more diverse audience, Jam moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2009 to attend college. In a city with a rapidly rising entertainment market, Jam began to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with. Jam made noise with his rendition of Kris Kross' 1992 hit "Jump," which garnered critical acclaim from many popular hip-hop blogs and websites. He was featured on WorldStarHiphop, The Next Magazine, HipHopWired, and HotNewHiphop to name a few. With musical influences ranging from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest, Jam’s musical interest has played a major role in the diversity of his sound and style. Serving as a modern-day blast from the past, he is the product of a child who fell in love with the style and culture of hip-hop during a time when music had a voice. From a little boy looking to make his own way to a man now creating his own path, Jam is sure to make you fall back in love with everything you use to love about hip-hop.
