Lyrics

Lost To You

Written By: Rebecca Rennie

Lost to You

and if you come around to ask
where i ‘ve been since then
if you ever do come around
i’m lost to you, my friend

and if you come around to ask
of all the things i’ve seen
i wont be bearing that old stain
if you ever do come through again

i’m fallen,
i’m well & truly
lost to you

and if the cradle in our home
topples over too
then finally what’s lost to me
by your own hand is lost to you

CHORUS

so send your body off to fight
there’s no war at home to share
i saw a better love in us but
you would not go there

so send your body off to fight
raise arms with your own kind
if you ever see the light, you’ll find
i’m out of love & out of mind

im lost to you, old soldier
and love will never be the same
you wanted war, you have her,
in your heart,
you’re the man you maim

& if you come around to tell
of all the things you’ve learnt
or get down on your knees
& wail
about the towns you’ve burnt

i’m fallen,
i’m well & truly
lost to you

or if you come to learn that power could have built a hearth
you’ll find no woman here,
no mother,
none survived the aftermath

CHORUS
so send your body off to fight
there’s no war at home to share
i saw a better love in us but
you would not go there

so send your body off to fight
raise arms with your own kind
if you ever see the light, you’ll find
i’m out of love & out of mind

All In Grey

Written By: FREYjA (Rebecca Rennie)

all in grey

I knew there was something wrong
i saw the cars on the lawn
& a black armband honouring
the holy hush of the gone

they hung their sleeves in the sun
seemed so much to be done
but the child’s laughter
found its way through
with somewhere left to run

it was 2 days later
the black cars came
& there I awaited their sad parade
that winter twinkled it didn’t rain
but they piled out
just the same
all in grey

was then I knew he was gone
as if he’d put out the sun
but the blue sky like a
curtain cued me
life goes on & on

with so many gardens
there to shine through
& so many green wheres to run to
they were there just the same
cloaking their rainbow days
all in grey
all in grey

but what now of the
garden he shared?
what of the gifts he bore?
the chokos and lemons he
bagged outside my front door
the bay leaves, the basil
who’ll plant them now?
will they dress the garden
in his white corn flowers
or pave
all in grey?

I knew there was something wrong
i saw them paving the lawn
and the child’s laughter
has lost its way
with no-where left to run

they hang their sleeves on the sun
dim the world where it shone
and a yard once filled with whisperings
now the hush of the gone

two lives later
more black cars came
but I wont await their
sad parade again
the winter twinkles, & though no rain
they cloak our days
just the same
all in grey

Fold Your Hand

Written By: Rebecca Rennie

fold your hand

you wager all the stars above, the way you play
& now you may just pay the price
you say you didn’t see the signs
and never cared for games
but you’re the one who rolled the dice and

all the while she’s been burning for you
& all this time has passed
she throws in her cards the moment she knows they cant win
so fold your hand fold your hand, fold your hand fold your hand

you dealt a frozen wave of love
& now you claim she’s turned you cold as ice
but you cant burn a bridge then
square your debt away with tickets to paradise cos

you’re buying time
just enough to keep her reckoning
you keep pondering your call
but you can claim you didn’t make that bed you’re sleeping in

you raised the stakes, you knew she’d raise you everything
she’ll see you now & raise you everything or
nothing at all

all this time has passed
& she’s been burning for you
all this time has passed
fold your hand fold your hand

One Forever Love

Written By: Rebecca Rennie (adapatation from French Brel Song La Chanson des Vieux Amants)

one forever love

(la chanson des vieux amants by jacques brel
english poem adapted by rebecca rennie )

1
there is no doubt we weathered bad days
all these years on, no love’s naïve
a thousand times you took the long way
a thousands times i took my leave

& even i recall the score
before the wave snuffed out the flame
where tempests were not of our season
nothing was ever like before
not once the wind blew out love’s name
nor once my heart had lost all reason

my only love
my only truly one forever love
from break of day through to the end i vow
there’s only you
i still love you

you know all the spells i cast now
i know all your secret woes
our demons lie there in the past, though
i still lose you to some of those

you know i have my other life
we cant pretend it doesn’t show
one has to live as one devises
but in the end, in the end
there is no way we can pretend
one can grow older but not wiser

my only love
my only truly one forever love
from break of day through to the end i vow
there’s only you i still
love you now

the more time parades all its glories
the more it torments vanquished hearts
within the battles of life’s stories
we lovers play our crucial part

of course my tears don’t flow as hard
our sorries are not said as late
and we keep fewer secrets holy

now we deny the flow of time
but we leave much less up to fate
declare the tender war our only

mais mon amour, mon doux mon tendre mon merveilleux amour
de l'aube claire jusqu'a la fin du jour, je t'aime encore tu sais je t'aime.

Bye Bye Mon Bel Ange

Written By: Rebecca Rennie

bye bye mon bel ange
(translation of original song in english by rebecca rennie)

bye bye mon bel ange
je vais te quitter
je n’oublierais jamais
tout l’amour,
l’amour partage

bye bye mon bel ange

souhaite moi bon voyage
je volerai comme une ombre
et toi, tu resteras mon belle ange

© 2004 rennie

bye bye mon petit ange

bye bye, mon petit ange
l'absence partagee

bye bye, mon petit ange
je vais te quitter
decidee a voler
de mes propres ailes

chorus

bye bye, mon bel amant
aimer enfin vraiment
d'un amour sans tourment

bye bye, mon bel amant

Bye Bye Angel

BYE BYE ANGEL
© Rebecca Rennie (FREYjA)

bye bye my little angel
i’ll be leaving you
you may die a little death inside you
but i’ll be crying too

bye bye my little angel
i’ll be shooting through
i’ll fly just like a songbird
is prone to do

CHORUS
there will be other, other little songbirds
you can’t be bleeding my love any longer
so open the cage
i’m blowin’ away
i’ll be leaving you
but i’ll be crying too

bye bye my little darling
I wish you everything free
free to love again
free to find there’s
more to love than loving me

bye bye my little darlin’
I wish you everything good
i’ll fly just like a songbird
you fly like an angel should

END
tho i’ll be leaving you
i’ll be crying too
